Pitra Dosh Puja in Gaya: Cost, Timings, Vidhi, and Benefits

An asura by the name of Gayasura once lived, and in return for his severe tapasya, he was given a blessing that guaranteed salvation to anybody who saw him (Moksham). Because salvation can only be obtained by leading a moral life, it is now widely accessible. To keep sinful people from finding salvation, Lord Vishnu gave Gayasura the orders to go beneath the earth and place its right foot on the asura’s head.

Even when Gayasura was driven into the earth, Vishnu’s footprint remained there. There are nine different symbols in the footprint, including Shankam, Chakram, and Gadham. It is said that these are the Lord’s weapons. Now lying on the ground, the Gayasura cried out for food. Lord Vishnu blessed him with the knowledge that someone would feed him every day. The souls of those who follow through will ascend to heaven. It is said that he will emerge on the day that Gayasura goes without food. Every day, people from various parts of India would pray, give food to Gayasura, and hope for the deceased’s well-being. The Gaya temple is known for Dosh Nivaran and Shraddh rituals.
