Sri Kalahasti Brahma Tapas

Sri Kalahasti Brahma Tapas Story

As per the Legends, Once Brahma was holding his court with Devas and Sages, at this time, Hi consort, Saraswati entered the court. She appeared extremely beautiful at that time. Her graceful and charming appearance distracted Brahma. He terminated his court immediately and left the place with His consort to a divine place. He asked her to appeared in a hundred forms so that he could sport her. As a result, they were blessed with Hundred devilish sons. They were cannibalic, chaotic and most destructive. Brahma ordered them to go to the Vindhya Mountain and live there. These demons after reaching hills started disturbing innocent people. Greatly disturbed by these ruinous activities the Earth Goddess (Bhudevi) appealed Brahma to save her. Brahma created a son, named Ugra and commanded him to kill demons. As ordered, Ugra killed the demons and informed the same to his father. Listening to this Brahma was infuriated and turned Ugra into ashes.

Brahma realized his sinful act. He moved to Dakshina Kailasa (Sri Kalahasti) along with His consort Saraswati and performed a strict penance for Lord Siva. Siva appeared before Brahma with His consort Paravati and adivsed them to continue penance on the same hill for an year, startin on the day of the Makha star in the month of Margasira.Siva also granted Brahma’s wish for worthy son  at the end of Tapas.

Brahma and Saraswati were blessed with a son, named Ribhu. He later became a great sage.

  1. Dear sir,

My husband and I want to perform the Rahu Kethu Pooja on Tuesday during Rahu kaalam. We also want to perform the Rudra abishekam on the same day. Must we perform after the Rahu Kethu Pooja or can we perform before? Also, can both my husband and I perform the Rahu Kethu Pooja and Rudra abishekam as a couple? If my mother in law were to join, how much extra would it cost for her? Please advise. Thank you.
