In the year 1975, this area was declared as a Wildlife Sanctuary. This Sanctuary Stretches over an area of 550 Sq.Km. This wildlife Sanctuary is inhabited by Leopards, Spotted Deer, Sambar, Barking Deer, Swamp Deer, Hog Deer, Sloth bear, Wildboar, Jackal, Elephant, Rhino, Civet etc. Boat Safari across is available inside the Sanctuary. Gharial Breeding Center is located within the Sanctuary.
