Thirukadaiyur is the place where Lord Shiva revived Yama from death. Lord Shiva killed Yama while trying to rescue Markandeya from death. It is the place where Lord Shiva blessed Markandeya. Another folklore associated with this temple is that Lord Ganesh hid the nectar pot at Thirukadaiyur. Devas ignored worshipping Lord Ganesh after procuring the nectar pot from the Milk Ocean. This temple is popularly known for the 60th, 70th, and 80th marriages. Ayush homam and Mrityunjaya homam will also be performed here at this temple.

Dress Code
- Gents: dhoti (white) and shirt or kurta and pyjama.
- Ladies: saree or salwar kameez (with Pallu Compulsory).
- All devotees are requested not to wear clothes such as T-shirts, jeans, etc., as they are strictly prohibited, irrespective of age group.
