Rameswaram Naga Pratishta: Cost, Timings, Date, and Benefits

Rameswaram Naga Pratishta Timings, Cost, and Procedure.

The story behind Rameswaram Temple History states that Lord Rama worshipped Lord Shiva here. As Lord Vishnu, as Lord Rama, was returning from his defeat of the demon Ravana, he made an offering to Lord Shiva. The Asura Ravana was a Brahmin king who kidnapped Sita. Lord Shiva was to be worshipped as atonement for Lord Rama’s killing of him to put an end to his brutality and save Sita. Lord Rama had requested Hanuman to get a lingam from the Himalayas so that he might perform prayers. But when Hanuman was unable to bring back the lingam in time, Sita made her lingam. At the predetermined auspicious moment, Lord Rama worshipped Lord Shiva. Satisfied, Lord Shiva bestowed blessings upon Lord Rama and, at his request, made himself known through the lingam. It is thought that the sanctum of the temple currently houses the same lingam.

The lingam that Hanuman carried back from Kailash is also said to have been preserved at the shrine. Hanuma lingam or Vishwalingam, is the name of the lingam. By Lord Rama’s directions, prayers are offered to Lord Ramanathaswamy after first being offered at Hanuma lingam.
