What is the Rahu Ketu Pooja?

It is Rahu Ketu Kala Sarpa Dosha Nivarana Pooja, which will be performed daily at Srikalahasti Temple. Rahu Ketu Pooja should be performed when there is Kala Sarpa Dosha in the birth chart.

  • When Rahu Graha is in the Lagna, or first house, of the birth chart and Ketu is in the seventh house, the Anant Kaalsarp dosh is formed in the native’s chart. All of the other planets are positioned between the two planets.
  • when the kundli has Rahu in the second house and Ketu in the eighth house. If all of the other planets are positioned between these two planets, then it is Kulik Kaalsarp Dosh.
  • when the kundli has Rahu in the third house and Ketu in the ninth house. If all of the other planets are positioned between these two planets, then it is Vasuki Kaal Sarp Dosha.
  • when the kundli has Rahu in the fourth house and Ketu in the tenth house. If all of the other planets are positioned between these two planets, then it is Shankapal Kaal Sarp Dosh.

How long does the Rahu Ketu Pooja take?

Puja Duration: 35 to 40 minutes.

Darshan Duration: 40 to 50 mins (which varies with rush)

All devotees are requested to sit in a line. Puja can be performed as a single or couple. One attendant is allowed if the person is performing puja as a single. Unmarried couples can’t perform this pooja together.

Steps involved in performing Rahu Ketu Pooja in Srikalahasti

All the required Puja articles will be provided while purchasing the ticket from the booking counter. Puja articles include two serpent silver idols, Flowers, coconut, black grams, red and black cloth, lemons, Kumkum, turmeric, etc. Devotees are requested not to purchase any puja articles for this puja. Temple staff will be assisting the devotees in setting up the Rahu Ketu Puja. The priest explains the Puja procedure step by step in English, Telugu, Tamil and Hindi. After puja, the Dakshina might be expected from the devotee, it is better to keep Rs.50, and Rs.100 change separately. Once puja is done, the devotees are requested to carry the serpent idol and drop it in the Hundi at Lord Siva Sannidhi. The devotees are advised not to carry the idols with them as it is Dosh Nivarana and we have to leave them in Hundi. As we have noticed many devotees, unknowingly carry them to their homes.

No, it is advisable to perform during menstruation. One can perform this pooja after 7 days of their cycle. Kindly note that, even pregnant women should not perform this pooja. This pooja cannot be performed by the person for the next 11 months, if there is any death in the family.
