Purattasi Amavasya Pitru Dosha Pooja in Rameswaram is performed to pacify the ancestors’ souls. The puja lasts for about 3 hours. Purattasi Amavasya, or Mahalaya Amavasya, is highly preferred for Pitru pujas. It is believed that any offering to Pitrus on this special day will yield the best results. Rush will be very high on this special day. The puja starts as early as 3 a.m. on this auspicious day. You can perform any puja, such as Tripindi Shraddh, Thila Homam, Moksha Narayanabali puja, Pinda Pradhan, etc., on this day. One can utilise this day to remove one’s pitru dosha. Even a small offering on this day is highly beneficial. It is advisable to inform us three weeks in advance. On this day, those who have not yet performed pitru karya can perform pitru dosha puja to eliminate their dosha. On the day of Purattasi Amavasya, the puja lasts until 6 p.m.

This puja is performed in a yagashala located outside the Rameswaram Temple. Thila Homam, Tripindi Shraddh, and Pinda Pradhan are performed to remove Pitru Dosha. Moksha Narayanabali Pooja is performed to pacify an unsatisfied soul. For any unnatural death, the Moksha Narayanabali Pooja should be performed. Those with Pitru dosha in their birth kundali should perform Thila homam. A single person or a couple can perform this puja. An unmarried couple cannot perform this puja together.

- Gents: dhoti (white) and upper cloth.
- Ladies: saree.
- Regardless of age, we kindly request that all devotees refrain from dressing in jeans and T-shirts.
Instructions to be followed
- Women can participate in this puja after the fifth day of their menstrual cycle.
- If there is any death in the family, one should perform the puja after 3 months.
- One should stop consuming non-veg and alcohol for another 11 days after the puja.
- Three days before the puja, one should abstain from alcohol and non-vegetarian foods.
