Homam Duration: The Homam lasts between 2 and 3 hours, which includes the time for preparation. It is advisable to perform this puja on your birth star day. Anyone can perform this puja regardless of their age. One should perform this puja with utmost devotion and sincerity. This puja is performed daily at this temple. This puja is advisable for newborn babies and elderly people. This puja removes Apamrityu Dosha. A single person or a couple can perform this puja. One should take a head bath before the puja.

Lord Shiva self-manifested in this temple. As per the folklore, Markandeya was supposed to die at a young age. Knowing this, Markandeya worshipped Lord Shiva at this place. When the time of death arrived, Yama threw his whip to capture Markandeya’s neck. Markandeya was carrying an idol of Lord Shiva at that moment. The whip held Markandeya and Lord Shiva. Angered, Lord Shiva appeared before Markandeya and killed Yama (the god of death). Lord Shiva blessed Markandeya with a full life and also revived Yama.
