The well-known Chola king, Rajendra Chola (1012–1040 CE), ruled the town. Because of his strong ties to Pamban Island, the Jaffna Kingdom was granted the title “Sethukavalan.” The guardians of Rameswaram are referred to as Sethukavalan. Setu was a symbol that appeared in the caption and on the dynasty’s coins. Firishta had said that, despite strong opposition from the Pandyan princess, Malik Kafur, the ruler of the Delhi Sultanate and leader of the Alauddin Khilji camp, arrived in Rameswaram early in the fourteenth century for political growth. Pandya kings governed the entire country until the fifteenth century. Even now, it is thought that the Pandyan kingdom included Kamuthi, Rameswaram, and Ramanathapuram. Sarpa Shanti Puja is performed outside Rameswaram temple.
Rameswaram Sarpa Shanti Puja
- Timings: 7:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
- Pooja Duration: 2 hours
- No. of priests performing the Pooja: 4
- Spatika Linga Darshan is available from 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.
- Pooja Cost: Rs. 13000 on normal days and Rs. 15000 on special days.
- Number of persons allowed: one family.
- Sarpa Shanti Pooja should come after Darshan in the main temple, according to the devotees.
- Dress code: Please wear

Female: Saree with a blouse; Punjabi Dress with Dupatta; Chudidhar with Dupatta; Half Saree
