Rameshwaram Bali Tharpanam is performed exclusively on an Amavasya day. The puja on an Amavasya day starts at seven in the morning. An elder from the family should perform this puja. The puja lasts for an hour. You can use this puja to placate the spirits of your ancestors. One must perform Tharpanam for ancestors. It is believed that ancestors will always bless their clan with abundant fortune. “Pithru karma” is one of each person’s responsibilities. If a father dies, one has to do Shraadha karmas. “Pithru tharpanam” means “to satisfy the Pitrus. If you don’t fulfill the prescribed obligations, Pitrus will become enraged and eventually curse you. Pitru karmas should be performed regularly if one wants peace, prosperity, and optimal health for seven generations. Only when these karmas are performed, and the performance is engaging rather than merely traditional, will the Pitrus be content. As a result, we ask everyone to follow established protocols and Shradhaa.
We offer online puja services for those who are unable to attend the ritual. The puja will be livestreamed through a video call. One should join the video call to perform sankalpam. One should take a head bath before and after the puja. It is advisable to perform this puja on an Amavasya day, Pitru Paksha day, and on Mahalaya Amavasya day. One shouldn’t skip this ritual. Pitrus are there to keep their family members safe from harm. It is advisable to fast while performing this puja. We don’t advise fasting for the elderly and patients. This puja is performed outside the Rameswaram Temple.

- Regardless of age, we kindly request that all devotees refrain from dressing in jeans and T-shirts.
Rameshwaram Bali Tharpanam Procedure
Rameshwaram is one of the twelve Jyotirlinga sthalas. It is believed that performing this ritual at this sacred place will be effective. This puja is performed on the banks of the Bay of Bengal. One or two priests will perform this ritual. We supply the puja articles for this ritual. Those who are planning to perform dhan should inform us at least seven to ten days in advance. This ritual might take 1 to 2 hours. In Rameswaram, we also perform other pitru pujas such as Thila homam, Tripindi Shradh, and Mosha Narayanabali Pooja. Pitru Paksha days are highly preferable for Pitru pujas.
In Rameshwaram, we speak Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, and English. We will chant all mantras in Sanskrit. The puja will be performed in your native tongue.
