Which idol should be chosen for Naga Pratishta?

Both Sastra and astrology warn that it is harmful to watch snakes mating, and as a result, it is prohibited. The installation of idols in the form of coitus (mating) is not advisable. These idols should not be used for pratishtapana or idol installation. Additionally, the height of the idol shouldn’t exceed the primary deity in the sanctum sanctorum of a temple. According to Sanatan Vedic astrology, the idols that are selected should be a pair of snakes with their heads facing toward the devotees.

When should I perform Naga Pratishta?

  1. This puja should not be performed by pregnant women
  2. Women can perform this puja after the eighth day of their menstrual cycle.
  3. If a death occurs in the family, men cannot perform this puja for another year.
  4. It is not advisable to perform this pooja either by the husband or the wife if they are undergoing treatment related to pregnancy. In such a case, please perform this puja before the treatment for effective results.

The cost of the Naga Pratishta Pooja depends on the idol’s size and the number of serpent faces carved on it. Pooja’s cost starts at Rs. 17800 and goes up to Rs. 44000.
