Chandrahasini temple History

As per the folklore, Lord Siva married Daksha Prajapati’s daughter Sati Devi against his wish. Daksha who came to know about his daughter’s marriage got angered. He plotted a plan to insult Lord Siva by performing Yagna. Daksha invited all Devas excluding His Son-in-law, Lord Siva and His daughter, Sati Devi. Sati who came to know about her father’s Yagna requested her Husband to attend the event. Lord Siva advised Sati not to go for this Yagna as there is no invitation. After repeated request Lord Siva allowed Sati to attend the Yagna. Sati reached her paternal home and thought of advising her father not to go against Lord Siva. Daksha insulted Sati before the guests. Angered Sati immolated herself in the Yoga Agni. Daksha continued the Yagna even after the Sati’s sacrifice. Lord Siva who came to know about Sati’s death raised her and ordered Veerabadhra to kill Daksha. Veerabhadra along with Kala and other Siva Ganas destroyed Yagna place and killed Daksha. Lord Siva on collecting Sati’s corpse performed Pralaya Thandav. Lord Vishnu to stop the Universe destruction, sent his Chakra and made Sati’s Corpse into pieces. The body pieces fell across Indian Subcontinent and became Holy Shakti Peetas. It is believed that Sati’s Limbs had fallen here.

This temple will be thronged with thousands of devotees during Navaratri days ( Dussehra).  Festival will be celebrated in a grand which attracts devotees from Orissa and distant places. Temple is located on the banks of river Mahanandi.
