Thrikodithanam Mahavishnu Temple History, Darshan, and Booking

monarch, this isThe temple occupies rather a large area. Rising in vesara form, the Sree Kovil, or inner sanctuary, is majestic.
Looking at it seems to show it as a two-story building. Interesting wood carvings and mural paintings abound on its walls. These are supposed to correspond with the 16th through 18th centuries. One quite fascinating mural image shows Vishnu portrayed as a serpent. Furthermore, exceedingly artistic in aspect are the wood carvings on the Balikkalpura and Mukha mandapa. Great historical relevance exists in the lythic records on the age of the second Cheras kept in the temple. Furthermore, thought to be done by a Vijaya Nagara monarch, this is the perfect depiction of Narasimha set in this temple.

Thrikodithanam Mahavishnu Temple History

As said before, the sthalapurana links this site to the Solar dynasty king Rukmangatha. Ruling his people in a very fair way, he was a quite moral monarch. He used to respect famous sages and learned people. Once, Vasishta Maharishi shared with Devendra the outstanding moral attributes of this king. Lord Indra chose to challenge the king. He dispatched Narada to the Rukmangatha court. With customary respect, Rukmangatha greeted Narada. He picked the rare blossoms from his garden, fashioned a garland from them, and hung it around Narada’s neck.

When Narada returned to the court with the garland around his neck, the beauty of these flowers captivated Indra.

He thus dispatched his men to quietly visit Rukmangatha’s garden and gather those flowers for him.
The men of Indra visited the garden daily. Rukmangatha started to wonder about the disappearance of the lovely flowers in his garden. The king chose to investigate this mystery. He maintained a round-the-clock guard in his yard. But it was useless since the men dispatched by Indra would pluck the blossoms without the watchmen’s knowledge and then vanish in the sky and return to Indra’s court. Still, the watchmen kept their night watch. One evening, the watchmen burned some dry brinjol tree twigs as it was quite cold. I accidentally burned some of the brinjol tree’s tubers in the roots. The scent emitted from such burning tubers is supposed to neutralize the divine powers of every spirit as well as devils. Thus, the unintentional action of the watchmen in burning the brinjal roots dispersed their scent across the whole sky over the garden. Indra’s men could not fly back to their court with this persistent odor.

The watchmen caught the red-handed attempt to steal the expensive flowers from the garden. The watchers brought them to the king. It was from them that the king discovered the truth. The monarch affectionately welcomed them as guests and advised them that Indra was welcome to have his flowers daily if he was so fond of them instead of punishing them and sending them to work for theft of these flowers. These envoys of Lord Indra lost their miraculous ability to fly in the heavens, nevertheless, from the smoke of the burned brinjol plants. It was Ekadasi Day. They informed Rukmangatha that only if someone who followed the fast on that Ekadasi day (Ekadasi fast) was ready to offer them the advantage of such a fast could they be able to recover their divine powers to fly. Rukmangatha set out looking for anyone who had seen the Ekadasi vratha across his whole country. He discovered that just one woman had fasted on that day in his whole kingdom. She happened to be married to a dhobi. She had declined to eat the food of that evening due to the couple’s misunderstandings, not as though she watched the Ekadasi vratha with awareness. Still, even the unintentional fast observance on that day is considered to have given her all the advantages of having seen the Ekadasi vratha. Later, Rukmangatha determined that since observation of Ekadasi vratha was so effective, he should encourage that practice among the huge number of his subjects. The king asked her to offer the men of Indra the advantage of having observed the fast. He began watching the vratha personally and gave his students an example to follow his ideal as well. On one Ekadasi day following his fast, Durvasa Rishi reportedly visited his court and begged the monarch to feed him and his disciples. Durvasa visited the tank to have his bath. The monarch knew the timings for Ekadasi would be over and Dwadisi, or the next day, would start before he could get back. The fast observed on Ekadasi has to be broken when Dwadisi starts so that the effect of having observed the fast of Ekadisi is not lost. Rukmangatha is supposed to have drunk some water. Durvasa scolded Rukmangatha for not following the rigorous standards of honoring the guests and allowing them to eat first before partaking in the food when he returned and discovered that he had sipped some water even before his guests had eaten the food. Rukmangatha’s explanations for why he only drank water instead of food did not impress Durvasa.

Durvasa swore at Rukmangatha. Lord Vishnu sent his discus (chakra) to chastise Durvasa at that moment. Similar events link Ambarisha Maharaja with Durvasa Rishi. However, the main points of both tales are the same: Lord Vishnu dispatched His Chakra to punish Durvasa and underline to the people the grandeur of seeing Ekadasi vratha.

Thrikodithanam Mahavishnu Temple History

Still, another myth connected to this temple centers on a stone pillar located in front of the house. On top of that pillar, one finds a man roughly three feet tall. In his right hand, the man carries a conch. Once, the Raja of Chempakasseri arrived to offer prayer at this shrine. But the Sree Kovil had closed following the mid-day puja by the time he arrived at the temple. The main priest had also come back to his house. However, some of the temple servants, under the direction of one Marar, wanted the temple doors opened so the king could pray upon seeing the ruler. Use a conch before the temple opens. The Marar so concluded that the priest was compelled to open the door should he blow the conch. Notwithstanding the priest’s resistance, the Marar blew on the conch. The narrative is that the Marar tried to blow the conch but no sound came out of it. More importantly, he collapsed on the ground, dead. This meant that even God did not want any difference to be made between the ruler and the ruled and that the rites and schedules observed in the temple could not be eased to suit any man, however strong he might be. The three-foot-long figure seen on top of the stone pillar is thought to have been intended to commemorate this incident and as a constant reminder of the devoted Marar act.

Thirumittakode Anchumoorthi Temple: History, Timings, and Darshan

In the local community, it is commonly referred to as Anju Murthy Koil, which is a temple that contains five primary idols. It is also known as Thiruvichicode, Thiruvinjicode, and Thirumithacode. Other names for it include these. On the Shoranur-Calicut line, this divya desa may be found two miles away from the Pattambi railway station.

Due to the fact that it is located ten miles away from Guruvayoor on the route that leads to Soranur, it is also possible to reach it by bus from Guruvayoor. The temple is around one mile away from the Pattambi railway station, which requires one to go across the Bharatpuzha river and then walk for approximately one mile.

Uyyavandha Perumal is the name of the moolavar that is located here. He is observed in a standing position, with his back to the south. In addition to being known as Padmapani Nachiyar, the consort is also known as Vithvacodevalli. One of the names for the theertha is the Chakra theertha. Thatwakanchana vimana is the name given to the respective vimana. It was in answer to the prayers of Ambarisha Rishi that God made his appearance.

Thirumittakode Anchumoorthi Temple

It is said that the Pandava princes embarked on their pilgrimage after the catastrophic Mahabharata war in order to find some peace of mind and to calm their troubled mind, which felt guilty at the deaths of such a large number of their relatives as well as soldiers belonging to innocent armies of the Kauravas. Therefore, they set out on their pilgrimage. They eventually arrived in Thiruvithvacode, which is located on the banks of the Bharatpuzha river, over the course of their wanderings. In that sylvan location, they came upon a group of wise individuals who were all performing penance. They bent their heads toward the Maharshis and asked them to enlighten them with the stories that were associated with that kshetra. There was a site called Thiruvithvacode, according to the Rishis, where King Ambarisha was graced with a vision of the Lord Himself. When it came to the administration of a kingdom, Ambarisha was a just king who adhered to all of the rules that Manu had establisOn the other hand, he was concerned that he didn’t have a son who could succeed him and rule the nation.ntry. In order to perform a rigorous penance, he traveled to Thiruvithvacode.

Despite the fact that Lord Narayana was happy with his tapas, he desired to test the king’s devotion. As a result, he took the shape of Indra riding on Iravata, the elephant, and appeared before Ambarisha. He asked Ambarisha once again to beg for any blessing, stating that he was delighted with the penance that he had performed. When Ambarisha observed that Lord Indra, and not Lord Narayana, was standing in front of him, he graciously declined the offer of the boon that Lord Indra had made to him. Instead, he informed Lord Indra that he would want to continue his tapas until such time as Lord Narayana appeared. After listening to this, Lord Narayana, who was pleased with the rishi’s genuine devotion, revealed His true form. After then, the king expressed to the Lord that the only thing that was causing him sadness was the fact that he did not have any sons to whom he could transfer the Rajyabhara, which is the responsibility of ruling the realm. The Lord gave him the assurance that he would be able to return to his country, that he would soon become a father to a daughter, and that he would be blessed with two boys if he performed the putrakameshti yaga in the future. After saying this, God vanished from the scene. Ambarisha returned to his realm upon his return. God fulfilled his promise by first bringing into the world a daughter, whom he named Srimathi. He married that daughter to Lord Narayana himself and presented her to him as a gift. At a later time, he carried out the Putrakameshti yaga. One of his sons was a son. Moksha was evHe eventually attained Moksha and gave them charge of the kingdom after returning to the forest to meditate.eir hearing of this tale, the Pandavas inquired of the rishis as to the reason behind the presence of four Vishnu murthis within that temple. The rishis said that when Ambarisha performed tapas, he desired for the Lord to grant him darshan in the form of His Vyuha avatar. It is for this reason that the Lord Himself emerged in His four Vyuha forms, which are Pradyumna, Aniruddha, Sankharshana, and Para Vasudeva.

It is believed that the Pancha pandavas were responsible for the renovation and consecration of the temple, as well as the devotion of these four Vyuha murthis. Dharmaputra was the one who venerated the idol of Vishnu that was located in the center of the temple. Arjuna was the one who venerated the idol on the western side, Bhima was the one who venerated the idol on the left side, and Nakula and Sahadeva were the ones who venerated the idol on the right side. It is via this explanation that the peculiar phenomenon of four idols of Lord Vishnu being housed in the same complex and located in close proximity to one another may be understood. The fact that there are four murthis is a very distinctive characteristic that cannot be found in any other temple.

Thiruvalla Sreevallabha Temple History, Timings, and Darshan

Vallaba kshetra is the name that is commonly used to refer to this divya desa. The distance between this temple and the Tiruvalla railway station, which is located on the Kollam-Ernakulam train route, is around three miles. The moolavar is also referred to as Tiruvazhmarban and Sri Vallabha, in addition to the name Kolapiran. It is observed that he is standing with his back to the east. In addition to being known as Vatsalya devi, the consort is also known as Selva Thirukozhundhu Nachiyar. Darshal was bestowed upon Gantakarna by God. Along with the Pampa river, this particular theertha is also referred to as the Gantakarna theertha. One of the names for this vimana is the Saturanga kola vimana.

Thiruvalla, Chengannoor, and Aranmula were the three most significant locations in the region, which included the middle of Travancore. It is commonly thought that the location was given the name Thiruvalla in order to pay homage to Sri Vallabha, who is the god who preside over the Vishnu temple that is located in the vicinity. In the past, this town was a significant educational hub. Once upon a time, it was a powerful pole of the nambudiris, who came from the priestly class in Kerala. A significant amount of information pertaining to the history of this town can be found on the copper plates of Tiruvalla.
It would appear that in the early days, Thiruvalla was connected to a number of upagramas, which are subordinate settlements. Another one of the upagramas was Thirupparappuram, which is located in the Kanyakumari district of the present-day state of Tamil Nadu. Vellappalli, which is located in the north, was an upagrama that was under the jurisdiction of Thiruvalla. In addition, Dandin, a renowned Sanskrit poet who resided in Kanchipuram during the seventh century A.D., has expressed his admiration for the vaishna brahmins of Thiruvalla. This only indicates that the culture of Thiruvalla was already well-known far before the seventh century A.D. As far as historians are concerned, the brahmins settled in Kerala in a total of sixty-four villages, and Thiruvalla is one of those sixty-four villages. During the Chera dynasty, Thiruvalla flourished as a popular destination.

Thiruvalla Sreevallabha Temple History

It was in this location that God bestowed moksha upon Gantakarna and granted him darshan. He was a devout follower of the Saiva religion. It was after he had performed a great penance to Siva that he requested that He grant him moksha. After that, Lord Siva gave him the advice to pray to Lord Vishnu, who was the god who was responsible for bestowing forgiveness and salvation. Consequently, Gantakarna performed an equally severe act of penance before Lord Vishnu. This individual is claimed to have been given the name Gantakarna due to the fact that he used to wear two little bells with his ears. It was his objective to continue shaking his head in such a way that the bells would continue to ring in his ears over and over again, and he would not hear anything other than what he desired to hear. In essence, he desired to prevent any other name besides Narayana from entering his consciousness through the ear. In order to accomplish this, he would shake his head repeatedly, even while he was repeating the word Narayana. This was done to ensure that the exchange of sounds would never provide him with a distraction.Because of Gantakarna’s genuine prayers, it is said that Lord Vishnu made an appearance at this location and rewarded him for his efforts.

A lady by the name of Sankara Mangalathamma is said to have exhibited devotion to this location, according to another tradition that is associated with this location. This woman did not have any children of her own. Someone told her that earlier, Athithi had taken the Ekadasi vratha very seriously and then performed Parana on Dwadasi day (which means feeding a brahmachari on the next day). As a result, she was graced with the opportunity to give birth to the Lord Himself, who was born to Athithi in the shape of Vamana. In light of this, Sankaramangala ammai also began to take this Ekadasi vratha very seriously. She would first give her prayers on the day of Dwadasi, and then she would wait to eat until after she had fed a brahmachari. Tolakasuran, an asura, arrived at this location after a considerable amount of time had passed. The people who lived in the area were terrified of him. In the past, he was a source of frustration for the sadhus. As a result, the majority of them fled the location. Sankaramangalla amma, on the other hand, continued to reside in the same location and performed the Ekadasi vratha with a great deal of difficulty. This was due to the fact that on each particular occasion, it became increasingly difficult to locate a brahmachari to feed on a dwadasi day.

Tolakasuran was also aware of the affection that this lady possessed. He was determined to shatter her spirit in any way possible. On the day of Dwadasi, the lady had absolutely no one to come and eat with her. She had no one to consume her food. As a result, she prayed to Sriman Narayana and asked Him to find a solution to the situation that she was experiencing. After then, Lord Vallabha assumed the shape of a brahmachari and made his way to the residence of Sankaramangala Amma.

The brahmachari informed her that he had observed a fast the day before, which was Ekadasi, and that he had heard about the parana that the devoted woman had offered. He had come to take part in the meal that was being offered. He stated that he would go to the tank and then return after completing his ritual wash. When Tolakasuran came across the brahmachari as he was making his way to the river, a fierce battle broke out between the two of them. In the end, the brahmachari was able to let go of his disc, which was his Sudarsana weapon, and the asura was eliminated. Following the completion of its mission, the disk landed on the landscape. There was a spring that appeared. The disc was able to free itself of the blood of the asura and return to its permanent resting place, which was the hand of Lord Narayana. At the lady’s residence, the brahmachari was able to consume his meal. While this was going on, the lady learned that the asura had been put to death. There were times when she questioned whether or not this brahmachary child was truly divine. She became aware of the fact that the brahmachari had concealed his chest by covering it with the Krishnajan to conceal it. She became aware that it was a Bhagavatha leela by that point. She made a plea to the brahmachari, asking him to permit her to have a glimpse of Himself with His consort seated on His breast. It is stated that God gave her what she wanted. Because of this, the Lord in this place is referred to as Thiruvazhmarban, which literally translates to “a Lord on whose chest rests Thiru,” which is Mahalakshmi. The lady devotee’s prayer was a direct result of the Lord continuing to live in this kshetra. The Lord gave her the assurance that whoever took a bath in the Chakra theertha, which is the spring that the disc had produced for the purpose of purifying itself after it had killed the asura, would be able to get rid of all of their troubles and their aspirations would be accomplished. In addition, the Lord bestowed blessings and gave assurances that people who worship Him at the Vallabha kshetra will be blessed with the same kind of merit as those who have observed the Ekadasi vratha and then conducted the Dwadasi paarayana for a longer period of time.

There is still another tale associated with this location that states that the installation of this idol was attributed to the rishi Durvasa. Even in modern times, it is thought that Durvasa rishi still visits this location and worships the Lord at the middle of the night. In the middle of the night, there are some devotees who are under the impression that they hear the sound of the conch as well as other sounds that are associated with the offering of prayers, such as the tinkling of the bells and other similar sounds.
When viewed from a distance, the idol of Sri Vallabha is absolutely stunning. It was a long time ago when women were not permitted to be in close proximity to the sanctum sanctorum.

It is believed that the idol of Sri Vallabha was so stunningly gorgeous that one day, a lady devotee discovered that the Lord, who was dressed in all of His grandeur, was so irresistibly fascinating that she entered the sanctum sanctorum.

According to the legend, women were not permitted to visit the Nalambalam in order to avert a situation like the one described above, in which the lady devotees became enamored with the idol’s breathtaking beauty. There were two instances in which this tabu did not apply, even during those days. The first one occurred on the day of Thiruvathira in the month of Dhanur, which is the end of December, and the second one occurred on the day of Vishu in the month of Chitirai, which is April. On both of those occasions, the Lord would be dressed as a hunter, and it is likely that many had the impression that He did not appear to be as attractive and engaging when he was clothed in such attire. In spite of this, the tabu was lifted in the month of August in the year 1967. At this time, the sanctum is open to both males and females without restriction.

When he resumed, he tried to remove the Linga but all his efforts went vain. He left the Installed Linga at Vaikom and moved on. After travelling for a while, he installed the Linga in his Lefthand at Ettumanoor and the Third one at Kaduthuruthy, midway between the two places. It is believed that one must have Darshan on the same at these temples is highly auspicious.
