Thila Homam in Srikalahasti is performed outside the Srikalahasti Temple. This puja is performed in a yagashala located on the banks of the Swarnamukhi River. The puja lasts for about 2 to 3 hours. Two priests will perform this ritual. Anyone can perform this puja regardless of their dosha. This puja is performed to appease the ancestors’ souls. Ancestors are there to protect their lineage. They will curse if the rituals are not performed properly. Any deviation in performing the rituals will anger Pitrus in the Pitru Loka.
Online puja services are available for those who are unable to attend. The puja will be shown on a video call. All your family members can join the video call to perform the sankalp. An elder from the family should perform this ritual. A son cannot perform this ritual if his father is alive. Please inform us properly while performing the online puja. During this ritual, Thila (black sesame seeds) will be offered to Lord Yama and Agni.
‘Thila’ means black sesame seeds, and ‘Homam’ is a ritual with a holy fire. Black sesame is associated with Lord Shani and Lord Yama. During this ritual, sesame seeds are used and offered to pacify the ancestors’ souls. This puja eliminates karmic debts. Thila Homam should be performed when the ancestral souls are dissatisfied or stuck due to unfulfilled wishes.
