Our Sanskriti & Gyan Temples Pooja, Darshan, and Timings Mrityunjaya Homam in Rameswaram is performed daily. The puja duration is 3 hours. Anyone can perform this puja regardless of their age. The word “Mrityu” means “death,” and “jaya” means “victory,” which means “victory over death.” A single person or a couple can perform this puja. The puja starts at 7 a.m. Typically, two to three priests will be performing this puja. This puja can cure incurable diseases. Even parents can perform this puja on behalf of their children. This puja is advisable for newborn babies. Lord Shiva will be appeased during this ritual.

According to legend, Daksha Prajapati cursed Chandra, who then recited this mantra and got relieved. Markandeya, a sixteen-year-old boy, recited this mantra by clinging to the Shiva Lingam. Yama’s noose enveloped Markandeya and Shiva Lingam. Lord Shiva, in anger, killed Yama and blessed Markandeya with full life. Later, Lord Shiva revived Yama. Mrityunjaya homam will be performed while the mantra is recited.
Puja Dress Code
- Gents: dhoti (white) and upper cloth.
- Ladies: saree.
- Regardless of age group, we kindly request that all devotees refrain from wearing clothing such as T-shirts and jeans.
Instructions to be followed
- Women can participate in this puja after the fifth day of their menstrual cycle.
- If there is any death in the family, one should perform the puja after 3 months.
- One should stop consuming non-veg and alcohol for another 11 days after the puja.
- Three days before the puja, one should abstain from alcohol and non-vegetarian foods.

Mrityunjaya Homam will be performed by invoking the fierce form of Lord Shiva. This puja can rejuvenate a person fighting death. Even bedridden patients can perform this puja. Relatives or friends can perform this puja on your behalf. You can perform this puja on any day. For any specific mantra, Japa-sankhya, please let us know in advance. A Brahmin can recite a mantra 3,000 times by performing it for 3-4 hours.

This puja is carried out outside the Rameswaram Temple in a yagashala. An astrologer can help you determine the auspicious day for this puja. Good Tithis are Panchami, Dasami, Dwadasi, Trayodasi, Chaturdasi, and Purnima. We will provide all the required puja articles. This puja is performed individually. We don’t perform group pujas or Samuhika pujas. Maha Mrityunjaya Homam will be performed with the moola mantra. For bedridden patients, we advise performing Ayush Homam along with Dhanvantari Homam.
