Pitru Dosha Pooja is performed daily in Gokarna near the main temple. The puja lasts 3 to 4 hours. Pitru Dosha Pooja occurs when rituals are performed at irregular times. Ancestors (Pitrus) will curse their family members for not doing their duties. Anyone can perform this puja regardless of their age. Not everyone in the family will be affected because of this Dosha. Puja Dress Code
- For gentlemen, the dress code includes a white dhoti and either a shirt or a kurta paired with pajamas.
- Ladies: saree or salwar kameez.
- Regardless of age group, we kindly request that all devotees refrain from wearing clothing such as T-shirts and jeans.
Puja Instructions To Devotees
- One should refrain from consuming non-vegetarian food for three days before the puja.
- A woman can perform this puja after the fifth day of her menstrual cycle.
- If there is a death in the family, you can perform this puja after six months.
- A Brahman can perform this puja on your behalf.
Pitru Dosha Pooja in Gokarna Temple
A woman can perform Sankalpa and other rituals during this puja. At the end, a Brahman will be performing the final rituals. Here at Gokarna, this puja will be performed for you and your family members. We don’t perform group or Samuhika Poojas. It is advisable to carry an extra set of clothes, as one should discard clothes worn during the puja. The puja starts as early as 6 a.m. on an Amavasya day, whereas the puja starts at 4 a.m. during Pitru Paksha days. On normal days, the puja starts at 8.30 a.m.
