The Garuda Purana describes Narayan Bali Puja as a necessary ritual that is performed in all cases of abnormal death, which includes the following: death by fasting, animals, accidents, arson, curses, cholera, or any other unusual disease that causes an unexpected death; suicide; falling from a mountain, tree, or other height; drowning; death by robbers or muggers; snake bites; lightning strikes; murder; and individuals who are great sinners. It also includes Pitru dosh in the horoscope, delayed marriage, difficulties conceiving, business loss, family separation, etc. There is no cremation ceremony, Tarpana, shraddh, or Asaucham for any unnatural death. The rituals of Narayan Bali are identical to those of a Hindu funeral. Chanting Vedic mantras summons such lost souls. Through Narayan Bali puja, the soul transcends and becomes free.

Why Gokarna for Narayan Nagbali Pooja?

Gokarna is a small temple town located in the Kumta taluk of the Uttara Kannada district in Karnataka state, on the country’s western coast. Mahabaleshwar, or Lord Shiva, is the primary deity of the temple. One of the seven major Hindu pilgrimage sites in India is Gokarna. Southern Varanasi and Bhookailasa are the names of this sacred location. Cow’s Ear is what Gokarna implies. This place of worship is thought to be where Lord Shiva appeared out of the ear of a cow (Prithvi, Mother Earth). It is situated where the Gangavali and Aghanashini rivers meet in the shape of an ear. Gokarna thus acquired spiritual significance on a global scale. The Maha Mrityunjaya Homam ritual at Gokarna carries immense significance in and of itself. Gokarna is referred to in the Shrimad Bhagavata Purana as the home of the brothers Gokarna and Dhundhakari. The renowned Shiva temple, Mahabaleshwara Temple (Maha: great; bal: strong), is home to the “Atmalinga.”

Procedure for Narayan Nagbali Puja

• Narayan Bali Sankalp: Sankalp will be performed with the performer’s gotra.
• Sankalp for the departed soul
  Mention the name of the departed soul, their connection to the performer, and the cause and manner of death.
• Ganapathi puja
  It marks the beginning of the actual puja. Puja will be offered to Vinayaka for not having any hurdles.
• Pretha Avahana uses coconut in a predetermined order to call on the departed souls.
• Pradhan Dash Pind
  Offering Pinda for the departed soul
• The Devatha Kalasha Sthapana and Avahanam of  Lord Brahma, Vishnu, Rudra, Yama, and Savitra
• Panchaka Shraddh presents the Vishnu Deva with five pinda pradhans
• Homam (Agni Kund)
  Pandits will start chanting the Narayan Bali mantras.
• Thila Homam
  Thila Homam will be performed based on the count (Japa Sankya)
• Dasha daan
  Donations are made in ten different ways, depending on the performer’s choice.
