Importance of Rameswaram

It is said that Lord Rama desired to worship Lord Shiva to relieve them from Brahmahatya Dosha for killing Ravana, a Brahmin. Rama asked Hanuman to bring a Shiva Lingam from the Himalayas. As Hanuman gets late for the puja, Lord Rama worships the Shiva linga made out of the sand by Sita Devi.

  2. This dosha has to be performed when Tharpanam was not offered to their ancestors.
  3. The person who wants to perform Pooja has to reach Rameswaram a day in advance.
  4. Stay at Rameswaram for the night.
  5. The next morning, take a holy dip in Agni Theertham.
  6. After changing clothes, proceed to the temple for the main deity, Darshan.
  7. One should not perform Pitra Dosh Puja with wet clothes.
  8. This puja will be performed near Agni Theertham itself.
