Alipiri Steps Metlotsavam
A number of peetadhipathis from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and New Delhi, besides some 150 bhajan troupes, are expected to participate in the annual `Tirumala Metlotsavam’. Clad in traditional `Kannada Dasa’ attire, devotees, including women, would go round the town rendering Purandara Dasa keertans.
The religious fete will be flagged off in III Chowltry in Tirupati on October 31.The bhajan troupes would first visit the Govindarajaswamy temple here around 4 p.m. and later go through major thoroughfares before culminating at the Thyagaraja Mandapam for special pooja.
The next morning i,e. 1st Nov, they would set out on the Metlotsavam – holy trek up the Tirumala footpath which is on Nov 1st during wee hours.
It would be preceded by a hour-long pre-dawn ritual at Alipiri, the foot of the hill, in which peetadhipathis and devotees, besides senior T.T.D officials would participate. The troupes would then start their trek along the flight of steps. After rendering bhajans along the four mada streets, the devotees would have darshan, marking the end of the three-day programme.
