TIRUPATI, APRIL 25: The annual Pushpayagam performed in Sri Kodanda Rama Swamy temple in Tirupati on Saturday evening not only enthralled the devotees but also “Mother Nature” as the day witnessed a pleasant weather with drizzles giving a soothing relief to the denizens from scorching heat. This celestial fete commenced by 2pm on Saturday in this ancient temple on the auspicious Punarvasu star which also happens to be the birth star of Lord Sri Rama and floral bath is offered with tonnes of varieties of flowers to the processional deities of Lord Sri Kodanda Rama, Sita Devi and Lakshmana Swamy seated on a colourfully decked platform.

 

This fete lasted for about three hours even as the archakas chanted Vishnu-Gayatri mantra to appease the Lord of Flowers-Pulludu, who is Pushpadhipathi of this ceremony. The devotees were spell bound by the divine charm of the deities during this fete which concluded by 5pm.

 

TTD EO Dr D Samba Siva Rao, JEO of Tirupati Sri P Bhaskar, temple Dy EO Sri Bhupathi Reddy, Garden Deputy Director Sri Srinivasulu, EE Sri Jagadishwar Reddy and others were also present.

 

Meanwhile Pushpayagam is the annual fete which is usually observed after Brahmotsavams of   temple especially in the Vaishnavaite temple under the aegis of Ttd as a purification ceremony  to get rid of the sins which were committed either knowingly or unknowingly by the archakas, temple staff and even by pilgrims.

 

While, another spiritual belief related to this festival is that this fete is conducted to propitiate Lord to save Mother Earth from natural calamities and disasters.
