The devotees are allowed to write Om with Chandan on Shiv Ling. Jalabhishek, Bilwarchana can be performed. The devotees are allowed to touch Shiv Ling. Karthika Masa, Monday’s, Sivaratri festival days will be crowded. Amavasya day is an auspicious day for Darshan. Thousands of devotees worship Lord Shiv on Amavasya day. Bhog will be offered to Karthikeya at first. Three days the festival will be celebrated for Sivaratri.

Matangeshwar Temple Khajuraho
This temple was built by the Chandel King Chandra Dev in the 9th century. Chandra Dev an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva. This Shiv Ling is 18 feet tall ie. 9 feet tall from the basement and 9 feet under the basement. It is said that Chandra Dev installed Shiv Ling on top of Markata Mani. The rays from the Markata Mani believed to cure illness and bless devotees with positive energy. Lord Ganesha Idol is located at the temple entrance. Karthikeya and Maa Parvati Idols are located in Garbha Griha. This temple was named after Chandra Dev Guru Ji Matang.
Sivaratri festival commence on 12:00 am itself and at 6:00 am Aarti and Alankar will be performed. Hundreds of couples get married on Sivaratri day.
