Chauragarh temple History
As per the Legend, The Demon King Bhasmasura got a boon from Lord Siva that he can turn anyone into ashes by placing his hand on their head. Bhasmasura on getting his wish fulfilled thought of testing it on Lord Siva. Lord Siva escaped from the demon and stayed here. It is believed that Lord Siva left his Trishul while leaving this place.
The devotees used to offer Trishul when their wish is fulfilled, it is kind of thanksgiving. Hundreds of Trishuls offered by the devotees were seen outside the temple. Thousands of devotees reach the temple with the Trishul, which weighs 151 Kg (around) and 15 ft in height.
Visitors start trekking down by 3:30 pm as it gets dark by the time they reach the bottom.
Important festival days: Maha Sivaratri, Karthik Masa days. Temple remains open on all days.
