Amarkantak temple History
This temple is to Lord Siva, where the deity is called by Amarakanteswar. This is the birthplace of River Narmada. It is believed that River Narmada took birth here as instructed by Lord Siva. The devotees used to take bath in Narmada Kund followed by Goddess Narmada Dashan. It is said that Lord Siva self-manifested here.
As per the folklore, Goddess Narmada appeared in the dreams of a Banjar, Rewa Nayak and revealed her whereabouts. As instructed Rewa Nayak removed the bamboos surrounding the Tirth and installed the Goddess Narmada Idol. From then onward.
There is interesting folklore associated with River Narmada flowing West. It is said that River Narmada and Sone supposed to get married. As Sone married some other, angered Narmada turned her direction.
This temple is located at 1000 mt above the sea level. Amarkantak is the birthplace of the 3 holy rivers, The Narmada, The Johila and The Sone.
Abhisheka is performed to the main deity. The devotees are allowed to perform this Puja. Karthika month will be crowded.
Kapildhara, It is believed that Rishi Kapila stayed here and mediated. This place is 6 Km from the temple.
Dudh Dhara Falls is 7 Km from the temple.
