Pattadakal temple History

This temple is located on the banks of the River Mala Prabha which flows on the Eastern side. Temple is 24 km from Badami and can be reached from Badami by Road.

Pattadakal Temple List

Virupaksha Temple

From the inscriptions, it is known that this temple was built during the 7th and 8th Century AD. This temple was built by the Queen Lokamahadevi to commemorate the success of her husband, Vikramaditya II over the Kanchi rulers, Pallavas.

Mallikarjuna Temple

This temple was built by the Queen Trilokya Mahadevi, Second wife of  Vikramaditya II during 7th and 8th Century AD. This temple was built to mark Chalukyas victory over Pallavas.

Papanatha Temple

This temple was built during the 7th and 8th  century AD. Temple was built in Nagara style which later modified to Dravidian style. Scenes from Ramayana and Mahabharata were carved on the walls of the temple.

Jambulinga Temple

This temple was built in Nagara style. Temple design reflects Hucchimalli Guddi Temple at Aihole

Kashi Visweshwara Temple

Galaganath Temple

From the inscription, it is known that this temple was built at the beginning of 8th Century AD. This temple was built in the lines of Viswa Brahma Temple at Alampur. Temple architecture reflects Nagara Style.

Sangamesawara Temple

From the inscriptions, It is known that this temple was built during 696 – 733 AD by the Chalukya King Vijayaditya. Temple architecture reflects the Dravidian construction style.
