Gokarna Mahabaleshwar
Lord Siva Atma Linga is located here. One can perform Abhisheka with his/her own hands at this shrine. Temple is 3.2 km from Murudeshwar. Gokarna means ear of the Divine cow as the linga here resembles the Cow’s ear.
The temple is located a the Sangamam of Rivers Gangavali and Agnashini. It is believed that offering prayers for Lord Siva at this place will be relieved from ‘Brahma Hatya Dosha’. , Lord Rudra went to Patalaloka for penance on the advice of Lord Brahma and returned from the ear of Mother Earth, often symbolised as a cow. Since the place served as the womb for him, it is also known as Rudra Yoni or Adi Gokarna.
As per the folklore, Lord Rudra did penance in Pathala Loka as instructed by Lord Brahma and returned from Mother Earth’s ear. This place is called by Rudra Yoni or Adi Gokarna.
Kollur Mookambika Temple
Temple is dedicated to Goddess Mookambika. This shrine is known for Vidyarambham, which will be performed daily. This temple is 60 km from Murudeshwar. The direct bus will be running with good frequency.
The village Kollur is named after the sage Kola who was shown the Swarnarekha Lingam by none other than Lord Siva. When the saint asked Siva how he could worship the Lingam without Goddess, Lord Siva replied that that on the left side of the lingam were all the three manifestations of the Goddess – Lakshmi, Saraswati, and Parvati will be present.
Udupi Sri Krishna Temple
This temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna and is 103 km away. 6 poojas will be performed daily at this holy shrine. The direct bus is available from Murudeshwar to Udupi.
It is believed that this Idol was made by the divine architect Viswakarma, and worshipped by Rukmini Devi, Lord Sri Krishna’s wife. When Krishna left the earth after his sojourn here in Dwajapara Yuga, the Pandava King Arjuna is said to have hidden this Idol.
