Sirkazhi Bhramapureeswarar Temple History
Sirkazhi is the birthplace of the Saint Tirugnanasambandar. When Tirugnanasambandar at three years, his father Sivapada Irudayar came here with his son to perform Japa in the temple tank. He left the child on the bank and immersed in the waters to perform Japa. The child started crying when his father did not come up for a long time. It was then that Lord Siva and Goddess Parvathi appeared before him mounted on Nandi. Paravati, boundless in mercy, gave him a golden vessel filled with milk drawn off from Her breasts. The blessed child was bathed in the milk; the father who had finished Japa by the time came up and asked the child who gave him milk; then Sambandar Sang his first Song. The three-year-old child pointed out Lord Siva and Goddess Parvathi above. The fortunate father started carrying his child on his shoulders from that moment. The child also sang of every deity they worshipped. The saint called by Tirugnanasambandar.
It is said that Brahma and Guru (Jupiter) worshipped the deity here hence the name, Puhali.
