As per the folklore, Swamy Vivekananda reached this place on 24 Dec 1892 and meditated for 3 days ie 25Dec – 27Dec. This memorial construction was started in the year 1964 and took 6 years for completion. 650 workers contributed in building this great memorial and made available to the public from 1970. This memorial houses the Statue of Swamy Vivekananda. It is believed that Goddess Kanyakumari did penance on this rock.

This rock is surrounded by waters of the Bay of Bengal, Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea. Spectacular view from this point, The Indian Ocean is deep blue and the Bay of Bengal is a bit greenish in colour.

Peak Season: 2nd week of Dec- 2nd Week of Jan. Full moon day, Chitra Pournami day.

Best Time to Visit: Dec-Mar.

Entry fees: Rs.20/ person

Journey Time from Shore: 5-10 mins by Ferry. Ferry Service runs at regular intervals.

Location: 400 mt from Vavathurai Shore.

A long queue line will be there for General Tickets. The queue will be longer during peak season usually 2 Km long line and can go up to 1 hour waiting time. Special ticket line will be minimal.

Morning Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Sunrise happens between Vivekananda Rock Memorial and St. Thiruvalluvar Statue.

For Sunset, plan to reach this rock before 4:00 pm.
