Thirukadaiyur Ugra Ratha Shanthi Procedure

As per the folklore, Markandeya was born with Apamrityu Dosha. Knowing this from his parents, Markandeya worshipped Lord Shiva. As the time approached, Yama (the god of death) reached Markandeya, who was holding Shiva Linga. Yama threw his whip, which struck Shiva Linga and Markandeya. Angered, Lord Shiva killed Yama with his Trishul. Lord Shiva blessed Markandeya with a full life. Later, Lord Shiva revived Yama back to life. Another legend is that a nectar drop fell on this place. It is believed that performing puja at this place will yield the best results.
