Sri Kapileswara swamy  Temple

Situated about 2-km to the north of Tirupati, at the foot of the Tirumala Hills, is the only temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, in Tirupati.

Sri Kapileswara swamy Temple is dedicated to the mighty Lord Shiva. The temple is of great religious significance; something quite evident in the huge number of pilgrims who come here every year to seek the blessings of their deity.

The great Shiva Linga in Kapila Theertham was established and worshiped by a great saint whose name was Kapila Maharshi in ancient days. That’s why the Lord in this temple is called Kapileswara swamy, and this place is called Kapila Theertham as The sacred waterfall called “Kapila Teertham ” (also known as “Alwar Teertham”) is located here. From centuries, older generations called this sacred place as Alwar Theertham until 18th century. Reason for this is Alwar saints used to bath in this waterfall before going to the darshan of Sri Venkateswara in those days. People started to call this temple as Kapila Theertham from 1850 A.D only.

Sri Govindaraja swamy Temple Tirupati

Sri Govindaraja swamy Temple is one of the most important temples in Tirupati, which is walkable from Tirupati Railway station. The architecture of the temple is one of its kinds and is marvellously constructed. The entrance of the temple has a magnificent seven-storey Gopuram built in 1628  A.D that can be seen even from a distance.

According to scriptures available with the TTD, the presiding deity of Govindaraja in leaning posture was shifted from Chidambaram (Tamil Nadu) when the local Chola emperor announced dismantling of the statue. On learning about its shifting to Tirupati, Vaishnavite savant Bhagawad Ramanuja arrived here in 1130 A.D and consecrated the same as per ‘Vaikhanasa Agama’ doctrine at the place where it exists today. It is said that the temple had Sri Parthasaarthi (Lord Krishna as the charioteer of Arjuna) on the main altar but Sri Ramanujacharya added the deity of Sri Govindaraja Swami.

The festivals and functions are similar to those conducted in the Sri Venkateswara temple. The annual Brahmotsavam at this temple is celebrated in the month of Vaisakha every year

The Lord is found with His consorts Rukmini and Satyabhama. To the left of the main Gopuram, is a temple dedicated to Goddess Laxmi who is seated on a lotus. There is also a shrine dedicated to Vedanta Desika, who was a great poet, devotee and philosopher and second great writer of Sri Vaishnava.

One interesting fact about the temple is that the celestial bath (Abhishekam) is not conducted with the presiding deity, as the deity, in the lying position, is made of clay.

Swamy pushkarini is located right opposite to the Temple and is 300 mt away from Temple Entrance.

ISKCON Temple Tirupati

A centre for Vedic culture and Theology at the most famous place of pilgrimage Triupati.

In 1974, His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada made a visit to Tirupati-Tirumala as a special guest of the Government of Andhra Pradesh. During his stay at Tirumala, Srila Prabhupada was extremely pleased to have darshan of Lord Venkateswara. He was also pleased to see hundreds of thousands of pilgrims visiting the divine daily. During the course of his discussion with Endowments Minister of A.P, Srila Prabhupada pointed out that TTD should take steps of propagating and reviving the message of Bhagavad Gita immediately on large scale. His Divine Grace said it was the only way to bring peace and harmony throughout the world. Since T.T.D has the basic infrastructure it should work out some programme and take the assistance of the devotees fo the ISCON to conduct vigorous preaching for the benefit of all.

In 1982, T.T.D provided a piece of land at the foot of the Divine Tirumala Hills. Today the vision of Srila Prabhupada is becoming unfolded. In order to effectively carry out the mission of broadcasting the science of God Consciousness, the master plan has been made for the temple. We strongly believe that this project will create a strong spiritual base for India, from where the universal message can easily reach one and all.
