Male: White Pancha, Dhoti. Men must remove their shirts and vests during the puja.
Female: Saree with a blouse; Punjabi Dress with Dupatta; Chudidhar with Dupatta; Half Saree

Srisailam Jyotirlinga History
It is said that Soma Muni’s son, Sage Silada, performed penance in Lord Shiva’s name. Pleased with Sage Silada’s penance, Lord Siva granted his dream to have “sons who would carry forward worshipping Lord Shiva.” Nandi-Parvat is the name Sage Silada gave his sons. As the wish was granted, Nandi-Parvat became a great devotee of Lord Shiva after learning everything there was to know about him. Parvat performs a penance with his father’s permission, and Lord Shiva, moved by his dedication, inquires about his wish. Parvat responds, saying, “I would like to be a similar mountain filled with gods who reside as one family, holy nine rivers, holy water sources, many peaks, animals, birds, all eight Bhairavas, munis, and rishis, fruit-bearing and medicinal plants and trees, just as all holy things reside in Kailasa. You will live upon me on the topmost peak in the guise of the great Jyotirlinga, while I assume the form of a mountain.” “You were the only devotee to have asked for such a great wish!” replied Lord Shiva in response. As a mountain, you will now be known as Sriparvatam, Srinagam, Srisailam, and Shrigiri. You will leave your mark on history when my followers walk across you while saying their prayers.” In Srisailam, this is how Lord Shiva assumed the form of Jyotirlinga.
How do I reach Srisailam Temple?
There are four gateways to Srisailam Temple.
- East: Ripuranthakam, Prakasam District. 93 km from Thripuranthakam.
- West: Alampuram, Kurnoon District
- North: Uma Maheswaram, Mahaboob Nagar District. 86 km from Uma Maheswaram.
- South: Siddavatam, Kadapa District.
A.P.S.R.T.C. runs a direct bus to Srisailam. Buses to Srisailam are available at regular frequency from Tirupati. Tickets can be booked online at the ApsrtConline website. Srisailam is 369 km from Tirupati, and it takes more than 7 hours to drive by road.
