In Gokarna, people perform Narayana Nagabali Pooja for two days. People perform Moksha Narayana Bali pooja to appease departed souls and to remove Pitru dosha. One should perform Narayana Bali pooja if there is an unnatural death in the family. We perform this puja to pacify the departed soul, enabling it to join the rebirth cycle or attain moksha.
What is unnatural death?
- Any form of suicide.
- Snakebite.
- Drowned in the water.
- If a person is killed by either an opponent or an unknown assailant,
- Accidental death.
- There is uncertainty about whether a person is alive or not.
- A person died of illness.
- A person died at a young age.
In such scenarios, Moksha Narayana Bali pooja is advisable. The departed soul will not attain peace and will suffer pain and agony; it will thus harm the family members. Unsatisfied souls will not leave this earth without proper rituals. This puja is meant to pacify forefathers and unsatisfied souls.
