Typically, 5 to 12 Brahmins are required to perform this puja. Auspicious days for this puja are Amavasya, Pitru Paksha days, and Mahalaya Amavasya. - For gentlemen, the dress code includes a white dhoti paired with either a shirt or a kurta and pajama.
- Ladies: saree or salwar kameez.

- A woman cannot perform this puja.
- A husband cannot perform this puja if his wife is pregnant.
- If there is any death in the family, then this puja can be performed after six months.
