Lingaraj temple is the largest temple in Bhubaneswar. It was mentioned in the Brahmanda Purana that there supposed to be 1 Crore Siva Temples in Bhubaneswar. New pots are used daily for the Bhog preparation. It is said that Yayati Kesari built the temple in 7th Century AD. This temple received huge contributions from Kalinga Kings. Bhog Mantap, Natya Mantap was built in 10th Century AD. This Temple complex is a group of all 12 Jyotirlingas as well as another form of Lord Siva. 108 temples are located in the temple complex. In this temple Siva Linga along with it’s Shakti worshipped as Hari Hara ( Siva Vishnu) therefore on the top of the temple there is a broken Bow instead of a Trident. There is an 8-inch SivaLinga in the Garbhagriha between the Shakti.

Temple Timings: 2:00 am – 10:00 pm

Bhog is available for the purchase near Mahaprabhu Lingaraj which cost Rs.20.

Temple is heavily crowded during Sivaratri and Karthika month.

Foreigner’s Entry Restrictions

Only Hindus are allowed inside the temple for the main deity Darshan.

There is a platform available outside the temple from where foreigners can view the temple. Entry is restricted to foreigners.

Shoes, Sandals, Leather Articles, Outside Food, Intoxicant, Camera, Umbrella, Mobile Phone, Arms and Weapons and Explosives are not allowed inside.
