Karur Thanthonimalai Perumal Temple History

As per the Legend, Vayu Deva (God of Wind) went to Vaikunta seeking Lord Vishnu blessings. Adi Sesha (God of Snakes) guarding the entrance and denied the entry to Vayu. The conversation lead to the Greatest among them. Adi Sesha should hold the Mount Meru, while Vayu should remove the mount from the clutches of Adi Sesha. Vayu efforts went vain and in anger broke the hill. The pieces of Mount Meru fell on the Earth. One such piece is the hillock of Thanthondrimalai. This temple is also called Then Tirupati.

The main deity Lord Kalyana Venkataramana Perumal is facing west. The sanctum sanctorum is a cave.

It is believed that placing Salt, Pepper and Jaggery in the temple will cure pimples and scars in the body. It is believed that the main deity is Swayambu standing on a hillock.
