Flamingo festival Sullurpeta Andhra Pradesh, India details
Foreign birds establish their nests at Nelapattu and feed on Pulicat Lake which is 20 km away. Pulicat wildlife sanctuary was established in the year 1985. In the year 2000 the then District Collector Praveen Kumar, was impressed with the beauty at Sullurpeta and decided to promote Tourism. In the year 2001, The District Collector organized a plan for 3 day Flamingo festival. The first celebration went on a grand scale in the year 2013. Festival will be celebrated at High School grounds Sullurpeta, Nelapattu, and Bheemulavari Palem in Tada.
From 2016 onward, AP State Tourism Department included Flamingo festival dates in their Calendar.
Every year Flamingo festival will be celebrated on the respective dates ie. 9th, 10th, and 11th Jan.
2019 Dates: 3Jan, 4Jan and 5Jan.
Flamingo birds reach Pulicat Lake in the mid of Oct and stay here for 3 months. Special free buses will be running continuously Sullurpeta to Nelapattu, Sullurpeta to Bheemulavari Palem Tada. Free visit to Srihari Kota Research Center will be available on these days.
Special free Buses runs with 30 mins frequency from Sullurpeta to Nelapattu and Tada during festival days.
