The annual Brahmotsavam at Vontimitta Sri Kodandarama temple in Kadapa district, along with Sri Sita Rama Kalyanam, is scheduled from April 06 to 15. Sri Sita Ramula Kalyanam will be celebrated on 11 April 2025. Devasthanam estimates that 1 lakh devotees will participate in this divine kalyanam.

Pattabhishekam will not be performed. Devotees who wish to participate in this event can reach the temple early in the day. Sri Rama Kalyanam will be performed in the evening for Chandra (Moon). This practice has been in place since Vijayanagara times.

Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy Significance

As per the folklore, Lord Venkateswara stayed here at Sage Agastya Ashram for 6 months after marrying Goddess Sri Padmavathi Devi. It is said that one should not trek hills in the first 6 months after marriage. So Lord Venkateswara stayed at sage Agasthya Ashram along with his consort. It is said that those who are unable to visit Tirumala can visit the temple at Srinivasa Mangapuram.

Those who are seeking good matches are used to visiting this temple to perform Kalyanotsavam. Kalyana Kankanam will be tied to devotees’ hands after the Kalyanotsavam. It is believed that unmarried devotees will find a good match within 6 months. For newlyweds, who offer prayers there first after getting married. Kalyanotsavam is performed daily at this temple.

Surya Jayanthi (Rathasapthami)

Ratha Saptami is celebrated yearly to mark the birth of the Sun god Surya. This festival falls on the seventh day of the bright half of Shukla Paksha of the Magha Masam, Ratha. Ratha Saptami is also known as Surya Jayanti or Magha Saptami. The sun god Surya rides on seven horses in its symbolic appearance of seven days of the week. The twelve wheels of the chariot stand in for the twelve signs of the zodiac.
Devotees gather in great numbers to offer prayers to the sun god. On this day, people worship God Vishnu in his form as Surya.

In Tirumala, this festival will be celebrated grandly. It is also called One-day Brahmotsavam or Mini-Brahmotsavam. Sri Malayappa Swamy rides on seven Vahanams from morning to evening to bless His devotees.

Devuni Kadapa History

Devuni Kadapa, also called Tholi-Gadapa, which means first step to Lord Venkateswara Swamy Darshan. Devuni Kadapa is located on the Kadapa highway. From the scripts, it is known that the Kripacharya constructed this idol. There are references to Devuni Kadapa in “Kripavathi Kshetram.”

This temple was built during the reign of the Vijayanagara dynasty. Hence, the architectural style reflects the same. Lord Hanuman can be seen here in reverse, which is unique. Another interesting thing to watch is the artistic creations of the dancing deity Ganapathi at Mukha mandapam.

Rush will be high during weekends, and darshan might take 20 to 25 minutes. It usually takes 5 to 10 minutes during the week. The rush will be high on festival days. The temple remains open on all days, and this temple is maintained by the TTD.

• Starting on January 29 at 9.30 am with Dhwajarohanam, the Brahmotsavam
• Garuda Vahanam falls on February 2, Rathotsavam and Dhooli Utsavam on February 4, Vasanthotsavam, Chakra Snanam, and Dhwajavarohanam on February 6.
• Kalyanotsavam will take place on February 3 at 10 am; Grihastas, two people, can join in by paying Rs. 300/-.

Early in the morning, the utsava deity of Sri Padmavati Devi on Pallaki Vahanam will be taken out for a celestial ride along the Mada streets.

After that, the Utsava idol will go on a procession to the Panchami Theertha Mandapam. The Srivari Sare and ornaments from Tirumala will reach Tiruchanur temple by 11 a.m., and archakas will perform special pujas on the Sare before adoring the Goddess at the Mandapam.

On the occasion of Panchami Theertham Sri Venkateswara will present ornaments to His divine consort Sri Padmavati Devi, which included 5 kg of gold Lakshmi Kasula Mala, and Yajnopavitam.

After that, grand Snapana Tirumanjanam will be performed to the utsava idol of Sri Padmavati.

Tiruchanur is the sacred place of Goddess Lakshmi. With great holy enthusiasm and excitement, the priests are performing this “Magha Sapthami Parva” magnificently. To bless the devotees, Sri Padmavathi Devi adorns seven vahanams on this day. Following the completion of all of Goddess Padmavathi’s “Vahana sevas,” the “Agama Shastra” tradition performs “Chakra Snanam.” According to the inscriptions, these Rathasaptami celebrations have been observed as “Ardha (half) Brahmotsavams” since 1564.

Surya Prabha Vahanam improves health on Rathasapthami day. Chinna Sesha Vahanam destroys all negative sins.
Those who are disciples of Garuda Vahanam are granted ‘dasya bhakti.’ Hanumantha Vahanam grants them success in their deeds. Kalpa Vruksha Vahanam fulfills the devotee’s desire. Sarva Bhupala Vahanam bestows money, power, and authority. Chandra Prabha Vahanam removes the difficulties and sorrows connected with the spiritual and metaphysical worlds. Goddess Padmavathi is the one who mounts these “Vahanas,” giving them the power of the divine.

It is well known that twelve names praise Lord Surya. The ancient sages clarified the origin of these names’ attribution to Him.

1. Mitra: The world considers Lord Surya to be a friend. The great ‘darshan’ of Lord Surya in nature is what all living things desire. Even though they dislike the sun, some birds, like ostriches, cannot survive without its rays. Sri Mayurakavi praised the Lord, saying that he can bestow the grace of the Lord in the form of longevity, prosperity, witty poetry, sharp mind, bright physique, long life, reputation, and health if he receives the ‘darshan’ of the Lord Surya and does good actions.
2. Ravi: Everyone devotes several “Sthotras” to Lord Surya. Thus, he goes by Ravi. He preached the Vedas to Lord Brahma, who was born from the navel of Lord Vishnu in the form of a lotus. Lord Surya is therefore ‘Vedavyaapaka.’
3. Surya: All living things are made to work by Lord Surya.
   He is the world’s creator and inspiration.
4. Bhanu: The earth is filled with the rays of Lord Surya. All living things worship Him for His brilliant rays. His bright rays charge the entire universe.
5. Khagudu: In the wide sky, Lord Surya sits and beams. He becomes known as Lord Suryanarayana in heaven and governs the universe.
6. Poosha: With His luminous light, He is feeding the entire universe. It implies that the Lord feeds the earth, who also bestows prosperity on nature. Food is essential to humankind and is the foundation of life. Lord Surya creates the foundation and provides nourishment for the coming generation.
7. Hiranyagarbha: Lord Surya will turn everyone into gold and hold them in His stomach until the last great devastation of the world. He will release them into the world after the disaster.
8. Mareechi: A Mareechiman possesses a group of luminous beams. He can drive out darkness and heal all manner of illnesses that are similar to foes. He is the Paramatma with the conch, lotus, mace, and chakra.
9. Adithya: Lord Surya is a great blessing to the world. It implies that Lord Surya is in charge of everything. It is the Lord who gives everything its shine. He makes numerous offerings for the good of humanity.
10. Savitru: Lord Surya gives all the creatures he has created life and happiness.
11. Arka: Lord Surya is the first to receive human petitions.
    Therefore, Surya Namaskarams are the most well-liked since they bestow their believers’ prosperity, health, and spiritual experiences.
12. Bhaskara: All people can glimpse the outside world because of Lord Surya’s blessing.
    Worshiping Lord Surya also helps us grasp many of the enigmatic things in the world.
    Lord Surya goes by many powerful and enigmatic names. They have deep, deeper connotations. It is recommended to recite these twelve potent names of Lord Surya, if nothing else, on the day of Surya Jayanthi or Rathasapthami. Let us offer prayers to Lord Surya to be saved.
