Dasa Mahavidya Homam in Kanchipuram is performed on specific days. This ritual is an individual puja performed for your family members. The puja duration is 6-7 hours. This puja is usually performed by ten to twelve priests. One thousand Japa will be performed for each deity. Usually, it takes 3 hours to recite the mantra. We will provide all the necessary puja articles. Homam might take another 3 hours for completion.

Dasa Mahavidya is a ritual where we worship the ten main deities. The Todala Tantra talks about these powerful goddess forms. The ten Shakti goddesses are Kali, Tara, Maha Tripura Sundari, Bhuvaneshvari, Chinnamasta, Bhairavi, Dhumavati, Maa Bagalamukhi, Raja Matangi (Raja Shyamala), and Kamalatmika. These 10 phases of Shakti show all of creation. The Ten Wisdom deities were first connected to the legend of restoring the Vedic teachings. A continuous line of mantric and meditation teachings from the Vedas to the Tantras is based on the Goddess, who is both a divine word and the goddess. The goddess periodically updates the lessons for survival in this world of time and death.

There is another divya desam in Kanchipuram on the premises of Kamakshi Amman Temple. It is in the prakaram of the temple of Goddess Kamakshi. Here, God can be seen with all four hands, almost like a sculpture on a rock near Goddess Kamakshi’s holy place. The Lord is looking east.

Adi Varaha Perumal Temple Kanchipuram

It is said that Lord Vishnu came out of the milky ocean in the shape of a tortoise (Kurmam), carrying the rock Mandara on its back. He looked like Sve-Tavarna in color. Halahala, the poison that came out of the ocean when it was stirred, turned his body dark. Being known for having a golden skin tone, Goddess Lakshmi is said to have looked at Vishnu and told him that his dark skin made him no match for her.
The Lord was angry about this slight and cursed her to lose her beauty right away. Then, it is said that Goddess Lakshmi prayed to Goddess Kamakshi in Kanchi to bless her and bring back her lost beauty. Goddess Kamakshi told her to stay to the left of Her sannidhi, which is in the Gayatri mandapam, and that all the devotees who receive kumkuma prasadam at Kamakshi shrine would give it to Goddess Lakshmi. Because the kumkuma prasadam works so well, she would get her beautiful complexion back. In return, she asked Goddess Lakshmi to bring all good things to the people who worshipped her. So, over time, Goddess Lakshmi got back to her beautiful form. She changed from Aroopa Lakshmi to Saundarya Lakshmi. At the same time, Lord Vishnu was sad that He had cursed His wife for something that she probably said without giving it much thought. Hence, he set out to find Her. He was happy to see Her in Gayatri Mandapam, looking as beautiful as she always was. Dess Lakshmi recognized the Lord as He sneaked up on her and called Him “Kalva,” which means “the lovable thief.” This is the story of why the Lord is called Kalvar here.

The Kamakshi Amman Temple and the Pavala Vannar Temple are very close to the Kanchipuram Railway Station.
Under Pavala Vimana lives Pavalavannar, who is the ruling god. He is sitting on the heavenly couch of Adisesha with five heads and his back to the west. One foot is majestically bent at a right angle, almost up to his waist.
It is also possible to see his heavenly conch, wheel, and abhayahasta mudra.

The puranas say that during each yuga, the Lord takes on different forms. People who live in Tretayuga are thought to be sattvaguna (calm in nature) and like the color white.
In Tretayuga, the Lord took on a milky white form, which is known as Svetavama. In Kritayuga, he turned red like coral, which is how he got the name Pavalavannar. In Dvaparayuga, he turned green like an emerald, which is how he got the names Pachaivannar and Marakatha Vannar. In Kaliyuga, he is seen with his original blue skin tone, which is called Syamalavarna.

Pavalavannam Temple Kanchipuram

But Bhrigu Maharishi felt bad about what he did and wanted to make up for it. Lord Vishnu informed him that Kanchipuram was a good place to perform tapasya. Bhrigu Maharshi went back to Naimisaranya and told the rishis what had happened. Kanchipuram is the place where the Sage started his Tapasya. Lord Vishnu was pleased with his penance and gave him an impression of Himself as Pavalavannar, sitting on Adisesha, just like Bhrigu Maharishi saw Him when he went to Vaikuntham. Inside the sannidhi of this shrine, one can see the idol of Bhrigu Maharishi.

The temple of Pavaivannar is right next to the temple of Pavalavannar. The names Pavalavannar and Pachaivannar have been used together for a long time, even though this is not a divya desam. But the Pachaivannar temple is also a well-known temple that is talked about in the Puranas. Pavalavalli Thayar is the name of Pavalavannar’s wife.Folks say that once upon a time, the Rishis of Naimis-aranya were offering a sacrifice for the good of all people. The heavenly sage Narada went to the spot and told them to give the sacrifice’s fruits to any of the Holy Trinity (Brahma, Vishnu, and Siva), as long as they were good in every way. The rishis couldn’t agree on which of the Holy Trinity was the best at Sattvaguna. In order to make a choice, they asked Bhrigu Maharishi to check the qualities of the Holy Trinity. He went to Satyaloka, which is where Lord Brahma lives. It was a special time for Brahma and Goddess Sarasvati to talk. He didn’t notice that Bhrigu Maharishi had arrived. It irked Bhrigu Maharishi. He told Lord Brahma that no place on earth would honor him and he cursed him. The rishi then went to Mount Kailas, where Lord Siva and Goddess Parvati were seen together. He also didn’t notice when the Rishi came to visit. The rishi got angry and cursed that people would never worship Lord Siva in His human form again. Instead, they would worship Him in the form of a lingam. Finally, the rishi went to Vaikuntham, where Lord Vishnu was sleeping in a yoga pose on Adisesha. He also didn’t notice when the Rishi showed up. The rishi got mad and put his foot on Lord Vishnu’s chest. Lord Vishnu woke up right away from his yoga sleep. He did not get angry. Instead, he grabbed the rishi’s feet, rubbed them gently, and asked the rishi if his feet hurt. It was then that Bhrigu Maharishi realized Lord Vishnu had the highest sattvaguna because he stayed calm even when things got bad.

Nilathingal Thundam Perumal Temple Kanchipuram: History, and Timings

The shrine of Nilathingal Thunda Perumal is another divya desam for Vaishnavites. In Kanchipuram, you can see this shrine to Lord Vishnu in one of the prakaras of the Ekambareswarar temple. Another interesting thing about this sannidhi is that it is inside the main Shiva Temple. Even now, a Saivite priest offers the prayer at this Vaishnavite shrine. The name of the Lord in this temp le is Ni-lathingal Thundathan or Chandrachooda Perumal. It shows God standing up and looking west. Purushasukta Vimana is where the Lord is.

It is said that Lord Vishnu couldn’t bear the heat of Ha-lahala poison while churning the milk ocean. The cold rays of the moon made him feel better at that time. Because of this, the Lord is called Nilathingal Thunda Perumal, where Nila means “moon.”

Nilathingal Thundam Perumal Temple, Kanchipuram

There is also a story that Goddess Parvati put her hands over Lord Shiva’s eyes for fun. The whole world went dark because Lord Shiva’s two eyes are thought to be the Sun and the Moon. The world was made brighter when Lord Shiva opened His third eye. The Lord was mad at Parvati and told Her to do penance on earth to make up for what She did without thought.
So, Goddess Parvati went to Kanchipuram to make amends. She came to Badarikasrama when she was a child. Katyayana rishi raised her and named her Katyayani. As the child grew up, the rishi learned why She was born and sent Her to Kanchipuram in the south. He gave her thirteen things: a rosary, a holy book, fried green gram, sand from the Ganges, an umbrella, a fan made of palmyra leaves, two chowries (flywhisks), a water pot, Vidayadharam, deepastambham, and Ganges water. He told her that these 13 things would change into a trident, a bilva garland, somavritta, kamadhenu, sprouted green gram dhal, a lingam, a snake-shaped ornament, a parrot, two beautiful women, the base for the lingam, and a needle as soon as she got to Kanchipuram. So, Katyayani set out to go to Kanchi. When she got to Kanchi, she made a Sivalingam out of sand and asked the two beautiful women (Saktis) to watch over it. She stood on top of the needle and did a lot of bad things under a mango tree as punishment.

Lord Siva wanted to test Parvati. He let Ganga out of his pulled-back hair. A flood from the Ganges was getting close to where Parvati was doing her penance, so she used her two “Saktis” to stop the water. One took on the form of Kali and held the flood water in a head in Her hand. The name of her was Maha Pralayabandhini.
Lord Shiva caused the flood water in the head to rise to the top.

For help, Katyayani prayed her brother Narayana to come her rescue. Vishnu took on His viswaroopa form, stopped the flood, and told His sister to hold the sand lingam with both hands so it wouldn’t break. This is what Parvati did. She had worked incredibly hard at being humble, and Lord Shiva blessed her. People say that when Lord Vishnu took on His Visvaroopa form, the moonlight hit His throat right on the spot. He was given the name Nilathingal Thunda Perumal because of this.-

Sri Azhagiya Singar Temple Kanchipuram: History, Timings, and Route

This divya kshetram in Kanchipuram is very close to the Deepaprakasar temple. This is a very old, dilapidated temple. There is not even a Rajagopuram. There are 3 sannidhis: one for the Lord, one for Thayar Amruthavalli and one for Garudar.

Sri Azhagiya Singar Temple, Kanchipuram

“Vel” means to want or need something. “Irukkai” refers to the place where he lives. In this sense, Velukkai literally means “a place where the Lord is happily settled.” It was first called Vel Irukkai, but over time, it changed to Velukkai.
In this place, Lord Vishnu is called Mukunda Nayaka. The god who rules over this temple can now be seen as Narasimhar. People say that the Lord first showed up in front of Bhrigu Maharishi, standing up and looking east under a Kanaka Vimana. At that time, people called him Mukunda Nayaka. But now we see that the Lord is here in the form of Narasimha and is looking west.

A story about one of the goddess Saraswati’s attempts to prevent Brahma from performing tapasya can explain this change. Saraswati, the goddess, told Kapalika, a spirit, to stop Brahma from doing the yaga. Lord Vishnu fought with Kapalika as Narahari or Narasimha and saved Brahma’s yaga.

At this Divyadesam, Thirumangai Alvar and Perialvar sang four pasurams to thank the Lord.

O God, once upon a time, as Lord Krishna, you killed Kamsa.
O God, once upon a time, you measured the 3 worlds with your three steps.
Are you tired as a consequence?
Is that why you are seen standing still at Velukkai?
and in a reclining posture at Thiruvehkaa?
O mind of mine! worship that Lord.

Second Pasuram

O Lord Narasimha, living in Velukkai, is there any help or vimochanam (redemption) for those who
do not surrender at your divine feet? (meaning to say there is no other way to seek salvation). This
is clearly proved when we deeply reflect on the fact that the fool, Hiranya Kasipu, who thought there
was none to excel him, was wholly destroyed, while the mere mortal, a child at that, i.e. Prahlada, who
placed complete faith in You, was safe. So pray to Lord Narasimha at Velukkai and seek His blessings
to guide you through the troubled sea of this world.

On the right, Lord Vishnu’s four limbs are seen holding an arrow, a sword, a lotus blossom, and the sudarsana chakra, or celestial discus. The four arms on the left are holding a mace, a shield, a bow, and a celestial conch.

Legends of Ashtabhuja Perumal Temple, Kanchipuram

This temple’s Sthlapurana describes Goddess Saraswati’s subsequent attempt to stop Lord Brahma’s penance. She unleashed an army of devils this time.
Lord Vishnu killed all these demons. She then dispatched Sarabha, a strange kind of ferocious animal.
As previously said, Lord Vishnu took on an extraordinary shape with eight arms bearing eight weapons to defeat this beast, and he destroyed Sarabha. For this reason, the Lord is referred to as Ashatabhuja Perumal.

Gajendra Moksham at Temple Tank

Some people think that this is the location where God came to save elephant Gajendra’s limb from a crocodile. An elephant by the name of Gajendra is said to have visited the Ashtabhuja Perumal temple tank every day, picked a lotus, and offered it as a sacrifice to the Lord.

When the elephant was attempting to remove the lotus from the tank one day, a crocodile grabbed hold of its leg and pulled it inside. The elephant cried out to the Lord, pleading for help. The crocodile was killed by the God using his Chakra, freeing Gajendra from its grip. This occurrence is supposed to have happened in the temple’s tank.

This Ashtabhuja Perumal temple is special because it is the only Vaishnavite shrine in Kanchi with a Paramapadavasal, which is the entrance to Paramapadam, or Vaikuntam, the place where the Lord resides and which is where everyone desires to go to become one with the All-Pervading Lord.

The name of the goddess is Pushpakavalli Thayar. Here, worshiping the Goddess is customarily performed before worshiping the Lord.

Ashtabhuja Perumal Temple History

On the northern wall of the Astabhuja Perumal temple’s central shrine, there is an inscription in Tamil that refers to the region that Chola King Rajendran I ruled (1034 AD). In Eyir Kottam, a district of Jayankonda Cholamandalam, it documents the tax-free donation of 1000 kuli of land as devadana and the sale of 3600 kulis for 47 kalanju by the people of Kanchipuram. These people worship Thiru Astabhujagrahattu Mahavishnu, offering sacrifices to the deity and lighting a perpetual lamp in the temple.

An additional inscription in Tamil, dating to the reign of Kulottunga I (1110 A.D.), can be found on the southern wall of the Ashtabhuja Perumal temple. It details the donation and sale of specific lands by the assembly of Rajasundari Chaturvedimangalam, a Brahmadeya village, to fund the kitchen expenses of the Astabhuja Paramasvamy temple in Kanchipuram.
