Chilkur Balaji Temple History

As per the folklore, a devotee who used to travel to Tirupati annually could not do so on one occasion due to a severe illness. In his dream, Lord Venkateshwara appeared and declared, “I am right here, in the neighboring jungle. You need not be concerned.” The follower immediately went to the location the Lord had shown him in the dream, where he discovered a molehill he had dug up. When the axe unintentionally struck the molehill-covered idol of Lord Balaji, blood unexpectedly started to pour from the “wounds,” flooding the area and turning it reddish on the chest and below the chin. The devotee was astounded by what he saw when he saw this. Subsequently, he was amazed to hear a voice from the atmosphere saying, “Flood the molehill with cow’s milk.”When the devotee did so, a Swayambhu idol of Lord Balaji—a unique combination of Lord Balaji with Sridevi and Bhoodevi—was discovered. This idol was installed with the appropriate formalities, and a temple was built.

Thus, Sri Balaji Venkateshwara, the Pratyaksha Daiva of the Kaliyuga, is accessible in Chilkur to bestow blessings on His followers who cannot go to Tirupati for whatever reason. To obtain the blessings of the Lord and his consorts, many devoted devotees visit the temple throughout the year, especially during the Poolangi, Annakota, and Brahmothsavams. Chilkur Balaji is also called Visa Balaji.

Usually Garuda Prasadam will be distributed on the next day to Dwajarohanam. ie on 23Apr 2021. Due to current COVID conditions, We are not sure about Balaji Brahmotsavam and Garuda Prasadam distribution details. We will post the updates after Ugadi on the Garuda Prasadam Date and Timings (if planned).

It is believed that having Garuda Prasadam will be blessed with a child. It clears the Dosha related to pregnancy. It is free Prasadam and is distributed to all devotees.

Garuda Prasadam Date and Timings: April 19, 2024, 8 a.m. Devotees are requested to be there at the temple by 8 a.m.

Charges: There is a free charge for all devotees and there is a limit.

Prasadam Timings: Prasadam is offered to Garuda after Dwajarohanam on Ekadasi Day. The timing changes with the Brahmotsavam calendar.

Prasadam Distribution Location: At Dwajasthambham.

On the day of Dwajarohanam, Garuda Prasadam will be distributed to the devotees. Santha Balaji will call Lord Balaji on this special day. Naivedyam will be offered to the devotees as Garuda Prasadam.

The devotees will perform 11 Pradakshinam before having Prasadam. This Prasadam will be distributed on the first of Brahmotsavam, i.e., on Ekadasi day. When their wish is fulfilled, the devotee will perform 108 Pradaskhinam.

Around 4000 to 5000 female devotees will have this Prasadam. Special arrangements will be made on Garuda Prasadam day. It might take 2 to 3 hours to wait.

Dress Code: Any decent outfit.

Darshan Duration: 25 to 35 minutes during the weekdays. 45 to 60 minutes during weekends

Garuda Prasadam day

Chilkur Balaji Brahmotsavam will commence on Chaitra Shukla Dasami. It is a seven-day annual festival, with Ankurarpanam on the first day in the evening. Brahmotsavam Ends on Chaitra Bahula Vidiya with Dwaja Avarohanam. Dwajarohanam will be performed on Chaitra Shukla Ekadasi day, i.e., on the second day of the Brahmotsavam in the morning. Garuda Prasadam will be distributed right after Dwajarohanam.

• The distribution of Garuda Prasadam to the childless couple will come after Dwajarohanam on the second day.
• On the second day, Sesha Vahanam will be in the evening hours.

As per the folklore, An ardent devotee by name Gunnala Madhava Reddy of Lord Venkateswara used to visit Tirupati every year. It happened once, that he was not able to travel to Tirupati due to health reason. He prayed to Lord Venkateswara for his inability. Lord Venkateswara appeared in his dream and revealed his whereabouts.

Next day, the devotee went inside the forest as instructed by the Lord. He started digging anthill in search of the Idol. The Crowbar struck an idol and blood oozing out of the anthill. The poured milk on the anthill as advised by the voice from the Sky. The devotee unearthed the Idol of Lord Venkateswara along with Sridevi and Bhudevi. This is Self-manifested Ekasila Idol is unique within which Sri Venkateswara Swamy resides with his Consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi.

The idol was installed as per Agama Sastra in Chilkur Village. This temple is of 500 years and was built by Akkanna and Madanna, maternal uncles of Bhakta Ramadas.

This Pradakshinam was in place from 1982 -83. The temple main priest Gopalakrishna Swamy performed Pradaskhinam when the borewell is drilling. Water came out of the Earth when he completes 11 Pradakshinam.
