The 60th marriage in Tiruchendur is performed daily. Typically, three to four priests will be performing this puja. The 60th marriage, or Shasthapthapoorthi, should be performed on your birth star day. If you are not aware of the birth star, then it can be performed on any auspicious day. Even unmarried individuals can perform this puja. The puja lasts for 4-5 hours. This puja starts at 8 a.m. Even a single woman can perform this puja. Her spouse doesn’t need to be present. The word “Shasti” means “sixty years,” and “aptha poorthi” means “completion.” This puja should be performed after the completion of 60 years and during the 61st year.

Usually, this puja will be organized by the couple’s relatives and friends. This puja strengthens the mangalya bhagyam. We will supply the puja articles for this ritual. The couple should wear traditional dress for this puja. It is said that a person can live up to 120 years, and 60 years is half. This ritual is performed to remove dosha.   • Women can participate in this puja after the fifth day of their menstrual cycle.
  • If there is any death in the family, one should perform the puja after 3 months.
  • One should stop consuming non-veg food and alcohol for another 11 days after the puja.
  • Three days before the puja, one should abstain from alcohol and non-vegetarian foods.
