The 60th marriage, or Shasthapthapoorthi, should be performed on your birth star day. If you are not aware of the birth star, then it can be performed on any auspicious day. Even unmarried individuals can perform this puja. The puja lasts for 4-5 hours. This puja starts at 8 a.m. Even a single woman can perform this puja. Her spouse doesn’t need to be present. The word “Shasti” means “sixty years,” and “aptha poorthi” means “completion.” This puja should be performed after the completion of 60 years and during the 61st year.
Usually, this puja will be organized by the couple’s relatives and friends. This puja strengthens the mangalya bhagyam. We will supply the puja articles for this ritual. The couple should wear traditional dress for this puja. It is said that a person can live up to 120 years, and 60 years is half. This ritual is performed to remove dosha. One should perform this puja with utmost devotion and sincerity. Even a widowed male or female can perform this puja.
Puja Dress Code
- Gents: dhoti (white) and upper cloth.
- Ladies: saree.
- Regardless of age group, we kindly request that all devotees refrain from wearing clothing such as T-shirts and jeans.
Instructions to be followed
- Women can participate in this puja after the fifth day of their menstrual cycle.
- If there is any death in the family, one should perform the puja after 3 months.
- One should stop consuming non-veg food and alcohol for another 11 days after the puja.
- Three days before the puja, one should abstain from alcohol and non-vegetarian foods.
60th Marriage Procedure in Tiruchendur
In Tiruchendur, this puja is performed individually. We don’t perform group pujas or samuhika pujas. Those who are planning to perform this puja should reach Tiruchendur one day before. The next morning, the puja starts sometime between 7 and 8 a.m. A maximum of 20 members is allowed for the ritual. We also perform Bhima Ratha Shanti (70th marriage) and Sathabhishekam (80th marriage) pujas. Shastiapthapoorthi, Shastipoorthi, or the 60th marriage should be performed to remove graha doshas.
