As per the folklore, Lord Shiva blessed his ardent devotee Markandeya at this temple. It is the place where Lord Shiva revived Yama (God of death). Another legend associated with this temple is that Lord Ganesha hid the Nectar pot (Amrit Kalash) at this place.
