Dhwajasthambam
Srinivasa Mangapuram, 10 February 2015: The nine-day annual Brahmotsavams of the TTD-run Lord Kalyana Venkateswara temple began on a colourful note with Dhwajarohanam on Tuesday at Srinivasa Mangapuram, 15 km from Tirupati. Religious fervour marked the occasion as residents of the nearby villages thronged the shrine in large numbers.
Dhwajarohanam signifies the beginning of any Brahmotsavam, as scriptures say that hoisting of the flag carrying the image of `Garuda’, the Lord’s divine carrier atop the temple flag post (Dhwajasthambam) would mark an invitation to all the celestial beings to witness the holy festival.
The temple priests hoisted the flag amid chanting of Vedic hymns and to the tune of devotional music between 8.30 am to 9 a.m., in Meena Lagnam said to be an auspicious hour.
The processional deity of the Lord was beautifully dressed up and adorned with rare jewels befitting the occasion flanked by equally and elegantly dressed consorts. Later, the deity was taken in a procession around the temple.
In the evening, the Lord’s deity was taken around the temple on `Pedda Sesha vahanam’.
FLORAL EXPO STANDS AS SPECIAL ATTRACTION:
Meanwhile the floral exhibition arranged by the TTD Garden wing stood as a special attraction during the event.
Colourful dioramas made out of tens of thousands of varieties of ornamental flowers depicting various mythological themes including Bheema-Duryodhana Yudham, Lord Anjaneya entering the mouth of Surasa, Lord Vishnu in the guise of Mohini distributing Amrita to deities and demons, Lord Srinivasa as Tribal woman in Padmavathi-Srinivasa Kalyana Ghattam etc.
All these themes attracted pilgrims and devotees who thronged the temple to witness brahmotsavams.
