Srinivasa Mangapuram Pavitrotsavam Started with Ankurarpanam.

Ankurarpanam for Pavitrotsavam at Srinivasa Mangapuram Temple, Tirupati. It marks the start of the festival.

The three-day annual ‘Pavitrotsavam’ at Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Srinivasa Mangapuram which is scheduled from Oct 19 to Oct 21 of this month got off to a spiritual start with Ankurarpana mahotsavam. Ankurarpanam has been performed in the temple with religious fervour on Saturday evening i.e Oct 18. Srinivasa Mangapuram, according to folklore, is the place where Lord Venkateswara lived for nearly six months after his wedding, as ‘desired’ by sage Agasthya. People facing problems in marriage believe that worshiping in the temple would bless them with a happy wedlock.

The objective behind performing ‘Pavitrotsavam’ every year in the temples is to seek the pardon of the deity for any act of commission and omission committed inadvertently by the priests, by the temple authorities or by the visiting pilgrims and restore the purity in its original pristine form.

The priests collected the ‘Putta mannu’ (sacred earth) required for Yagasala inside the temple. After the completion of certain religious formalities, the ‘nava dhanyams’ were ceremoniously sown in the earthen pots inside the Yagasala for germination — marking the commencement of the spiritual fiesta.
