Girija Kalyana Mahotsava

The story of the Girija Kalyana tells of Lord Shiva’s marriage to Parvati. Hindus place great importance on the heavenly marriage Girija Kalyana because they feel that participating in these rites bestows significant religious merit and qualities upon participants. Numerous Shiva temples around the nation host it. The Hindu priest performed the wedding ritual Vedic customs and offered poojas to Lord Shiva and his consort Parvathi. Following the marriage ritual, women offered rice and flowers to the idols of Shiva and Parvathi, who were seated atop a silver palanquin. After witnessing all of this, Giriraja is stunned and makes an appearance. “Let there be a war if one occurs. But I’m not letting my daughter wed that ugly bully. Not till I’m still here.” The procession stops at the kingdom’s gates, and the king makes his announcement. The Shiva is now on the verge of going to war. However, Vishnu suddenly leaves his home and arrives to save the day. The tale goes that he convinces Shiva to give up his way of life, forcing them to bathe in Himalayan rivers, apply various pastes, and purchase and put on ornamental clothes. Nandi is also adorned, much like the horses. Then, pay attention to what he says to the Himalayan King: “They have realized their mistakes and have changed their way of life.”! When the king sees the newly decorated parade, he is pleased. The union takes place.
