Kaal Bhairav Ujjain History, Timings, Aarti and Puja details
As per Skanda Purana, Kaal Bhairav took birth from Lord Siva’s anger. As per the folklore, Devas approached Lord Siva when Brahma started writing fifth Veda. Devas raised a concern that fifth might create trouble. Brahma denied Lord Siva’s request to stop writing fifth Veda. Kaal Bhairav who emerged from the Siva’s anger removed the Brahma’s fifth head. Kaal Bhairav who committed Sin did penance for Lord Siva on the banks of the River Shipra and got relieved.
Temple was built by the King Bhadrasen. Temple is 8 km from Ujjain city.
It is said that Kartikeya dropped his weapons into River Shipra after the battle with the demon Tarakasura. Goddess Parvati offered water from Shipra to Karthikeya after the rigorous battle.
Kaal Bhairav Ujjain Aarti Timings: 7:00 am – 8:00 am and 6:00 – 7:00 pm
Interesting ritual associated with this temple, that devotees offer rum or whisky bottles to the deity. The priest pours the liquor in a plate and places it in the mouth. The liquor soon empties and priest returns the empty bottle and plate at the end.
