Tumburu Theertham Tirumala

Tumburu Theertham is one of the natural watercourses, which dates back to the Vedic ages. The story behind the formation of the Theertham states that a Gandharva cursed sage Agastya’s lazy wife to become a toad that had to survive in this pond till the sage arrived. When sage Agastya came here with his disciples, the toad took the Gandharva form and hence the pond was known as Tumburu Theertham

Bathing in this water is really refreshing and is said to wash away the evils and confer good fortune. There is a platform built by the temple governance where the running water is diverted for devotees to take the water first in hand. Every pilgrim visiting Tirumala Tirupati must and should visit this place.

 The best time for visiting this place is during the rainy season, this place looks even more beautiful with greenery around and with white water gushing out of the rocks.
HOW TO REACH TUMBURU THEERTHAM TIRUMALA:
  • Some of the interesting places on Tirumala Hills like Gogarbham, Papavinasanam, Venugopala Temple are located on the way to Akasha Ganga Theertham. Pilgrims can visit these places by taking a Free bus or a Taxi.
  • A.P.S.R.T.C buses are available from Kalyani Choultry near CRO from 5 a.m every day with a twenty-minute frequency.

    I am visiting tumburi theertham since two years and eager to visit this year too. I also visited the other two dharas/theerthams Mukkoti Ramkrishnatheertham and sri kumara dhara/theertham.during 2014.I would be happy some one informs year 2015 dates for these three dharas since I am unble to reach the ttd customer care officials.

    For 2015 Ramakrishna theertham was completed on 3rd Feb 2015
    Thumburu theertham is coming month 5, 6th March 2015.
    Finally Sesha theertham will be during April month (full moon day).

    One correction regarding Tirumala theertha mukkoti dates:

    Kumara dhaara & Pasupu dhaara mukkoti on 5th March 2015 (as per TTD calendar).
    Dates for Thumburu & Shesha theertham will be known in new TTD calendar during April 2015 only.

    Dear Rajesh,

    For Kumaradara Theertham trip, on March 5th morning take bus/car/bike from Tirumala to reach Papavinasam dam first. From dam by walk you can reach Theertham in 30 minutes (about 1.5 km). This is one of easy to reach theertham.

    Dear Jayakumar,

    Dates are fixed by TTD, only during full moon days theertham visits are done from ancient days. Other days TTD forest department does not allow to any theerthas beyond Papavinasam Dam.

    3rd April 2015 – Thumburu Theertha Mukkoti, how ever there was eclipse on that night.
    4th May 2015 – Shesha Theertha Mukkoti completed.

    I am interested in visiting the Theerthams at Tirumala and surrounding places. Can you please give me dates when TTD/forest dept allows pilgirms to go to the Theerthams especially I am interested to go to Thurmburu Theertham.

      Entry to Thumburu Theertham is not available now. It is 9 km from main temple and is not easy to reach with one year kid. It would be nice if you can visit other theerthams such as Pandava Theertham, Chakra theertham, Akasa Ganga, Papavinasanam, Srivari Pushkarini (near temple)

      Jan and Feb will be the right for this Theertham. Water will not available during this time. Moreover For Thumburu Theertham permission is required from Forest department.

    Sir, Could you please share me, how difficult the terrain is? is it possible for persons with disability(of legs-(can walk with the help of walking aids)) to traverse that path? How far can people take their personal vehicle? Whether vehicles are allowed or not?
