Wood Fossil Park Jaisalmer Timings, Entry fees, Route info.
This park stretches over an area of 21 h.a which is part of Desert National Park. It is meant to protect Tree fossils which are of 180 million years old. Emu bird park is located within this park. Fossils of flying dinosaur species were recovered from Thaiyat area.
The park contains fossils of the Early Jurassic period. Wooden Fossils were kept for the visitor’s view, the largest of which is 13.4 mt in length and 0.9 mt in width. There are 25 petrified tree trunks located in this park. The fossils date back 180 million years.
The Geological Survey of India (GSI) declared the park as the National Geological Monument in 1972. This park was handed over to the Forest Department in 1985. Now, it is part of Desert National Park.
