Varahi Homam in Srisailam is performed in a Yagashala outside the temple. The puja duration is three to four hours. Anyone can perform this puja regardless of their age. Goddess Varahi Devi is a strong and powerful deity. She is an aggressive manifestation of Goddess Shakti. As one of the Sapta Matrikas, Goddess Varahi is primarily revered by adherents of Shaktism. Varahi Devi is believed to be Lord Varaha Swamy’s consort in Hindu mythology. Goddess Varahi is said to have appeared during the Varaha Avatar from Lord Vishnu’s nostrils. She appears as a four-armed goddess with a boar’s head, carrying a bowl, a lotus, a sword, and a trident.

Instructions to be followed
- Women can participate in this puja after the fifth day of their menstrual cycle.
- If there is any death in the family, one should perform the puja after 3 months.
- One should stop consuming non-veg and alcohol for another 11 days after the puja.
- Three days before the puja, one should abstain from alcohol and non-vegetarian foods.
Varahi Homam Procedure in Srisailam
This puja is performed outside the Srisailam temple in a Yagashala. It is advisable to perform this puja anytime between 12 p.m. and 4 a.m. for the best results. Typically, two to three priests will be performing this puja. A single person or a couple can perform this puja. Anyone can perform this puja regardless of their age. Goddess Varahi, Ugra Swaroopini, can be worshipped in two ways. We experienced pandits performing this puja. It is advisable to perform this puja on an Amavasya day for the best results. We don’t advise fasting for elderly people and for those who are on medication.
The Markandeya Purana mentions the Matrikas as the guardians of directions. Goddess Varahi is said to be riding a buffalo. It is mentioned in the Devi Bhagavata Purana that Goddess Sakthi created Varahi together with the other Matrikas. The Matrikas will battle demons when necessary, the Mother assures the gods. Goddess Varahi is a boon-giver as per the Markandeya Purana.
