Thila Homam on Amavasya in Rameswaram is highly preferred and auspicious. It is one of the Jyotirlinga Sthala and performing this puja here will remove pitru dosha. It is believed that performing this puja on Aadi Amavasya, Thai Amavasya (First Amavasya), or Mahalaya Amavasya (during Pitru Paksha) will yield the best results.
