Thila homam is performed near Agni Theertham. One should take a head bath at Agni Theertham before the puja. For effective results, one should perform this puja on fasting. One can have a liquid diet if required. An elder person has to perform this puja. For effective results, it is good to perform this puja on Ekadasi, Thai Amavasya, Aadi Amavasya, Pitru Paksha, Mahalaya Amavasya, or other Amavasya days. Thila homam costs vary with the mantra count.
