- One should stop consuming non-vegetarian food and alcohol three days before the puja.
- A woman can perform this puja after the fifth day of the menstrual cycle.
- One should stop consuming non-vegetarian food and alcohol for 41 days after the puja.
- If there is any death in the family, then this puja should be performed after 3 months.

- Gents: dhoti (white) and shirt or kurta and pajama.
- Ladies: saree or salwar kameez.
